How well does the secret service really protect the president? For example, imagine the president is going to make a speech outdoors. Does the secret service check and protect every single window and roof from which a shot can be taken at the pulpit?
No doubt that security is taken into account when selecting locations for a speech, but how far do they really go?

My mom used to take care of this boy whose dad worked for the Secret Service. He told me he couldn't say everything they do, for obvious reasons, but that there are multiple teams set up to protect the president. They will scout an area, consider every possible point to hit the target, and station snipers and other personnel atop roofs and such.
And if Obama is coming to your town, the authorities will run a background check on potential *problems* and check on your planned whereabouts on the day, close off streets and possible put you under surveillance. That is from a friend who worked with Dems in the past.
Obama is arguably one of the best protected dignitaries in history.
And for the folks who think they'll get close enough to harm him - good luck. The SS guys are packing some intense heat.
