For the most part, but people are more likely to get their asses beaten for being racist than for being homophobes. Trust me the second someone lets on they are racist everyone in the vicinity wants to punch them. Someone displays homophobia and they might get a couple of dirty looks at worst.

This is definitely true. Especially in where I live in Michigan (about 45 minutes outside of Detroit)
