Forums - Sales - Stupidest quote from sony yet!

A quote from Sony's chief financial officer Nobuyuki Oneda on the sales of the ps3:

"Actually, because the number of units sold was not as high as we hoped, the loss was better than our original expectation,"

Talk about looking on the bright side of things.

So... They are just putting a positive spin on the fact that they have not sold as many PS3's as they predicted...

Nothing wrong with that....

I think they are saying that they lost less than they thought they would.

End of 2014 Hardware Predictions (03/03/14)

PlayStation 4: 12-15million

Xbox One: 7-10 million

Wii U: 8-9 million (Changed 01/04/2014 from 7-9 --> 8-9 million)

definitely not the worst sony quote yet, sorry.

Bet with disolitude: Left4Dead will have a higher Metacritic rating than Project Origin, 3 months after the second game's release.  (hasn't been 3 months but it looks like I won :-p )

I dunno... Wouldn't not being able to sell consoles already manufactured (aka... Sony has already paid for them) be worse than actually selling them at at least not being totally in the hole? I guess if it was a runaway success and 20 million were already sold, they could claim that it was costing them a lot of money but but then, the mass production of the hardware would probably have cut it enough for them to be making money (and they'd still be selling at $600 because it was actually selling).

To cash in my CC rewards points for $300 in Circuit City gift cards to purchase a 360 or not: That is the question.

Sorry, not the stupidest yet. Actually that quote is not stupid, just funny.

The most stupid one, I think, is the one where they suggested that people should get a second job to buy a PS3. Any contenders?

Yeah, but Nintendo said that too...few people remember Perrin telling Matt C. that perhaps he's not getting paid enough if he can't afford VC games hehe.

It's not a stupid quote, but it is entertaining.  And perhaps it offers a little extra insight into why they're not futher dropping the price of the PS3 now.  An extra $100 would mean they'd need an attach rate of approximately 5 or 6  more games (conservatively) to make up the additional loss.  That's a big attach rate and only represents the amount of INCREASED attach rate.

So Sony probably doesn't want to sell more units at a lower price.  They'd rather bide their time until manufacturing costs come down.

Although that was a bit more humorous hehe.
