Considering that a platformer, and not a shooter, is the best selling game of all times, I dont think the generalized statement that you made even holds true. Lets face it, Gears 1 was a resounding success for a new IP, which LBP may or may not be, depending on the weeks, or months to come. no need to say stuff like it was going to sell anyways.

Didn't Gears of War have much more advertising on a system with much fewer quality games (at the time) on a system known for being full of shooter fans?

In any case I think we can safely say that LBP's peculiar launch has made LTD predictions based on the first two weeks questionable at best even leaving aside the theories about what model it would resemble more normally.

My advice to fanboys: Brag about stuff that's true, not about stuff that's false. Predict stuff that's likely, not stuff that's unlikely. You will be happier, and we will be happier.

The sales are good. I expect it to have good legs, and with christmas coming up, it should maintain high sales. I think it will do well in Europe, this kind of game is usually popular in Europe.

i think it is not as big as predicted, but considering the hype it is not too good.

and next week and after, this game will face COD, Tomb raider, Mirror edge, and even R2

For the first 1.5 years after the Xbox 360 launch, most people that bought one did so in anticipation for Halo.  Gears 1 came in good timing to satisfy the Halo fans' need for a good shooter.  The first Xbox was all about Halo or modding it.  So it's no surprise to see that the beginning of the 360 lifecycle was similar the the original Xbox.

"Naturally the common people don't want war: Neither in Russia, nor in England, nor for that matter in Germany. That is understood. But, after all, IT IS THE LEADERS of the country who determine the policy and it is always a simple matter to drag the people along, whether it is a democracy, or a fascist dictatorship, or a parliament, or a communist dictatorship. Voice or no voice, the people can always be brought to the bidding of the leaders. That is easy. All you have to do is TELL THEM THEY ARE BEING ATTACKED, and denounce the peacemakers for lack of patriotism and exposing the country to danger. IT WORKS THE SAME IN ANY COUNTRY."  --Hermann Goering, leading Nazi party member, at the Nuremberg War Crime Trials

Well, the PS3 lost to the X360 in America that week, so it had very little system selling impact. Hopefully it will do better in Europe, its own homeland and the PS3's best territory.

The US sales have been good so far - but next week is pretty important for the title. Its hard to know how the legs will do, given its "odd" two week launch period. If it does 100k (or less), I'll consider that poor - if it does 200k (or more), I'll consider that excellent.

Sales in Japan though, have been less than terrific - and bordering on terrible (for the title). Still, its been only one week.

The odd thing, is the LBP vrs WiiMusic ratio. WiiMusic:LBP is approx 2:1 in Japan - and WiiMusic has done ok (but not great).

In the US, its closer to 1:3 - whether this shows a failure of WiiMusic in the US, LBP being a "western" title (or some combination of both) - I'm not too sure.

...

Saw my first LBP ad on TV (Australia) - some "Rock / Guitar" level. To be honest, I had no real idea what was going on - in terms of it being an ad for a "game" I don't think it was very good - more showed off some interesting content (looked more like Guitar Hero ... I think?).

It also finished with an interesting "LBP - FREE!" (with any PS3 purchase)...?

It's all about the game.

I wonder if this game will have the same legs as Monster Hunter. I guess that isn't un-realistic.

Good to see this site is still going
