As expected. Not fantastic, not terrible. Average, for this type of game(AAA, marketing, reviews). Above average for a PS3 game.

It'll probably pass MGS4 at some point in its lifetime.

It'll pass 1m in America by January 1st.

We'll have to wait and see about EU.

Not "huge" as it was overhyped to be, but big, as any AAA tentpole hypefest is expected to be.

The game was hyped to be a console mover, though, and so far I haven't seen that. The extra 20k units the PS3 moved in Japan can also be contributed to GTA, as well as the extra values being offered on the console that week.

In the Americas there was no bump at all. It was outsold significnatly by the 360, due to Fallout 3.

The PS3 was actually down 5% this week in the Americas.

It's strange how it's hard to tell which games will be hardware movers and which wont.

Another interesting thing, bundles of new games seem to move hardware better than new games themselves. It seems consumers are more interested in increased value for a console purchase, than they are enticed by the software itself. The PS3 could have bundled, Fallout3, for instance, and likely matched the bundle bumps.

Another thing to remember, is MGS4 is only around 3.5 million, so this game could approach or exceed it.

 Profit? Yes.

System seller? No.

You can see a decrease in ps3 sales,while the 360 increased,probably because of Fable 2 pc fans and,in the near future,Gears 2 pc fans (excluding the 360 fans of those games,a second console for a Lan play is too much,even at this price).

Nothing about the N64 fans that are expecting Banjo 3...well,that`s life :) Maybe a new Conker game? Who knows...

First, I'm saying that right now, it's above average, for week 1, for a PS3 AAA hyped "big" game.

I'm saying that in the future sales will be more impressive because of legs.

Frankly, for the biggest game on the console and a member of the holy trinity, I'm a bit surprised by those figures, yes.

However, for the PS3's huge epic games, 3-4 million is excellent. In general though, for a "big" AAA hyped title, MGS4 is above average. Fallout 3 will almost certainly outsell MGS4 over all platforms combined, for example.

Am I supposed to make sure my words are considering the PS3's software sales average, or should I set my standard by the entire industry?

Now, I might have misunderstood. If you were trying to catch me saying something good about MGS4s sales, of course I did! MGS4s sales are pretty darn good, and the game is magnificant. I love it. I wish it sold more.

Doesn't honestly surprise me the amount of hype its getting.

But for this game to pull Halo or Mario kart numbers. Its on the wrong system to do that.

LBP is huge.

Anyway, with the promise that soo many wii games "will hav da legz", why not wait and see what LBP can do in more than 2 weeks before we call flop?

its not fair to compare MGS to two franchises which have basically always had higher sales.

wait till Gran Turismo 5 to make a fair comparison,

LBP is anything but huge based on existing sales figures. The hype for this game was always doomed to result in relative disappointment.

Nonetheless, it is good that the game looks to be getting towards being commercially successful, to accompany it's critical acclaim.
