"Dead Space ripped off plot points from countles movies which we've all seen 30 times"

Well, so did Mass Effect, but I bet you don't raise that complaint against that game.

I don't think anyone can call Mass Effect original, but at least it ripped off the good parts of some movies, not the worse ones.

But what about the weapons power up system and the store you say? Don't must guns become useless as soon as you get the next available better gun? So the power up system is pointless.

Exploration does not make sense for this game...why include it? Your objective is to stay alive, fix the problem, and escape the situation as quickly as possible. I have never been in a situation similar to the one in the game, but I can assure you I would not be exploring the ship. Exploration makes sense in a game like GTA but not in Dead Space.

No, the guns do not become useless. I used the plasma cutter for the entire duration of the game. I found the upgrade points useful.

Exploration is the key aspect of survival horror. I'm not talking about GTA type of freedom (sandbox). But a game that drops you in a world and tells you "figure out how to survive this". Resident evil, Silent hill...the best horror games always have an exploration element to them. Hence why you always have a map in those games...

Without it you may as well give me unlimited ammo and call it gears of war.

The genre has evolved. Dead Space and the Resident Evil 4 are an amalgamation of the survival-horror and action genres. Silent Hill has been become stale. If you want a "purist's" survival-horror game that is not another installment of a staled franchise, I am guessing you will have to wait until Alan Wake.

lol. Yes...staled.

And then one day when they combine Dead space and mario kart and that turns out to be the next fad...you will be here bitching how survuval horror and action combo was better.

That was a joke...

This has nothing to do with me being a survival horror of old school. I loved RE4...its one of the best games ever made. This is not...

I never claimed it was one of the best games ever made. Dead Space can still be a high-quality title and not be one of the best games ever made. Dead Space is a high-quality title that I and many others enjoyed.

While this is true...and again, I'd say its a 7/10 game(which isnt bad)...the amount of hype for this game I think exceedes the level of quality. Even the Blockbuster Video clerk told me that this game is "awesome" when I was renting it.

I guess a lot of people are enjoying it...and thats fine with me. However when I'm bitching on these boards in 4 months how they don't make enough survival horror games anymore...I don't want anyone saying "well you just had Dead Space...that was AAA"
