Forums - Nintendo - Capcom gives some numbers about Okami and Dead Rising

That was noname2200, who did the first coupld things. I brought up Odin Sphere because it did have data. Try paying attention to who makes what comments.

Even so, you were asked to provide data on Okami (the original game in question), and Disgaea (which you brought up).  Instead you ignored it and told him to look it up.  And if what you just said is true, you said so knowing full well there was no American data.

But it didn't outsell the PS2 version. It made Greatest Hits in America which means that it shipped 400k in North America ALONE!

who was even talking about the ps2 version? >_>

The very first post, and all the others saying the Wii release is the best selling version.  Unless there was an Amiga release nobody knew about.

No I was not asked, nor did I bring disgaea up. I only mentioned Odin Sphere and that this was a sales site. Look at the fucking previous replies and who made them. You'll see I didn't do those other things.

Ah, you are correct. with all the quotes I was thinking noname was the original poster.

I just butted in when outlawauron asked about backing up a sales claim, on fickin' VG Chartz.

This is what I get for not checking back on threads.

Yakuzice, I was the one who posted that, and so the burden of proof falls on me. It appears that outlawauron is unwilling to use this site's numbers (although I note the dissonance between calling this game a "niche title" too small to be accurately tracked on the one hand, and a title that sold well enough to be a Greatest Hits on the other...). Fortunately, we have another source.

"But when Okami finally released exclusively for PlayStation 2, it only enjoyed mild success. It wasn't the hit that it could and should have been, by all accounts. In fact, since its release in September of 2006, the game has amassed about 270,000 in sales"

Thus, a year and a half after release, Okami had sales of 270,000. Edit: That appears to be total, actually...Although the numbers don't add up if it released in Europe. Did it?

In August, it became a Greatest Hits title. So unless it somehow sold an additional 130,000+ titles in that four month period, it does not meet the formal criteria for Greatest Hits.

So...no other objection to my statement, then?

As to the original topic, I have to admit that I'm partly happy that the game's not selling well enough to warrant a sequel. Now that the developers have jetted(and are not on talking terms with Capcom) any sequel wouldn't be the same.

Sometimes that can be a good thing, but the "series" obviously hasn't had enough time to grow stale yet, so handing it off to another team would have been jarring. Better to just let sleeping wolf-goddesses lie...

Well, I'm not sure if that 270k is actually til March 20th. It could be from an older financial report, but who knows.

And it only has to ship that much. So, who knows.

@ LordTheNightKnight

It's kinda to back up a sales claim of a game that we don't have sales data of. I would have looked it up before making the claim. Thanks.

Nah. IGN pays to get the numbers monthly. Those numbers were up to date as of March 1, 2008. And it wouldn't have reached 400k via shipping, either. Capcom was contacted as part of that story, and their reply was "We're not shipping 10,000 a month of everything, but from distribution channels, we still get orders of a thousand here, a thousand there, and we're still selling it from the Capcom store."

So let's be EXTREMELY generous, and say they shipped 9k a month, starting in March. They'd still be over 90k short of the technical reqs for Greatest Hits. Only conclusion: Greatest Hits is flexible, in its requirements, and Okami did not reach 400k shipped.

The situation's a pity, dude, and if for whatever personal reasons you insist on clinging to your beliefs, all data to the contrary, knock yourself out. But:

#1) You'd be basically alone on this one, and

#2) I, personally, will not go to any further efforts to address your concerns in the future, as it'd mean I'd just be wasting my time.

I don't mean either one in a rude way, or to imply that you shouldn't do what you want to do, but I do feel obligated to give you fair warning, especially about the latter.

Anyhow, on with the show.

I understand, but IGN doesn't pay to get Capcom's financial reports. That's all I'm saying. And I added a who knows at the end, so I'm not just clinging to my beliefs or whatever.

And I'm sorry responded to me is a waste of your time.
