Mhm, I cannot wait to see Wii and 360 smash next week's Week 9, and maybe PS3 can get another green week before this thing is done.
Until then, we shall play the waiting game.
(Great work on this Sqrl, you're almost done!

Well the 360 needs to sell about 860k to hit the +50% mark, so its certainly possible, even somewhat likely if my guess is correct but it is by no means a gauruntee.
Given that the current +47.1% YoY rate suggests that it will do 816k, I'd have to think that the additional X-mas shopping days in week 9 this year vs last would translate to at least a 44k boost.

Awesome!
Btw do you think the entire home console market will be up again for next years H.Y.P.E?
I would say yes, theres plenty of growth to be had though next year may just be the peak year for the entire generation.
Tease.
@squilliam, it would be a sight to see them all up again, typically a console after its thrid year starts seeing its decline, but with such high prices at the start maybe the 360 can buck this trend.
I also dont know if a console has ever gone down a year early in its life YOY and come back to beat it next year, but id place money the ps3 can do it
the wii has two questions will it get a price drop and how much more production will nintendo allow we have to know those two things to know how well the wii will do.
@sqrl. thanx for updating over the holiday! interesting stuff the end of the last two years has been really wild I hope next year matches these

I would call next year the third year to be honest. The generation only really started it late 2006 with the Wii and PS3, so it'd be the third full year. I would say this applies equally to the Xbox 360 as well, if the PS3 achieves a YOY growth then its 80% likely that the Xbox 360 will to as they are so closely interlinked.
Tease.

One thing to take into consideration is that Nintendo is producing at 2.4m at the start of the year vs. 1.8m for half, and 2.4m for the other half. If they were to continue to ship units aproximately equal to last years shipments, they would have an extra 3.6m units to sell during holiday 09. So there is a good chance that holiday sales next year are larger.

NA and Japan sales are up, so let's see what Others sales will have too look like for the consoles to keep up YoY!
360: 90,072 in the Green!
Nothing much to say here, and with presumably strong Others sales coming, the 360 will see another great week!
PS3: 158,487 to go...
Sony's machine sold 190,000 alone in NA sales, so I really do think that PS3 will see at least one more green week. Let's start this year on a good note!
Wii: 210,194 in the Green!
While last year saw a sharp decline in consoles, this year is seeing a much more minimal drop. As seen for 360, Wii will have an outstanding week once Others numbers come rushing in.

Others is in, so let's see how the consoles did:
360: 450,468 in the Green.
PS3: 64,573 in the Green.
Wii: 813,963 in the Green.
Working on an update now, should be up by the time you see this.
Damnit!
I was about to click back to page 1.
Btw, will you update the H.Y.P.E. data when the adjustments come in?
Tease.
