Forums - Sales - The Official Second Annual *H.Y.P.E.* Thread

With European and American sales already in (That was fast!), I thought I'd make a quick preview of what sales are going to look like this week compared to last year. Of course, this is without Japanese sales... so we'll see where those numbers must be for the console to reach it's YoY goal, if it hasn't reached it already.

360: 324,505 in the green!

Another fantastic week for Microsoft's Box of X. 360 sees more than 500,000 sales in the Americas alone, and Others sales pushes it way past the YoY mark. Japanese sales wont be anything considerable, but with great sales in other regions, that's just fine.

PS3: 132,954 to go...

Well, PS3 does continue to see a rise in sales week after week, but unfortunately, it also saw a rise last year. So I think we'll be seeing another red week for the PS3, even when Japanese sales come in. With the Japanese preview pointing towards 50,000 or so units sold this week, the remaining numbers are just too much of a hurdle for Sony's machine.

Wii: 232,250 in the green!

This week saw over 1,400,000 Wii's sold last year, and it has been considerably beaten. With over a million units sold this week in NA alone, Wii had no trouble beating it's biggest HYPE hurdle. Now the real test this week will be beating the raw units put up by 360. The Japanese Preview sees sales for Wii around 135,000 and 20,000 for 360. That would put Wii at 365,000 raw units and 360 at 345,000. It's gonna be close.

Is the update coming yet? Would like to hear your views!

@ Smeags thanks!

Tease.

As soon as Japan is up I'll get to it ASAP...

There was so much going on this last week and a half that I haven't had a chance to analyze last weeks info so I've been avoiding looking at this weeks numbers other than to note that we have NA and EU in...trying to keep the info separate, although I couldn't help but notice that the Wii did the one thing I was planning to focus on for it...ie break 1M units in a single region.

OK week 7 analysis up, should be interesting to see if Japan gives the Wii enough to take the single week record...and if it does whether it can keep it after the adjustments.

Good write up, I think you should leave the charts as they are.

"OPEN QUESTION: Should I slide the 2008 holiday back one week to line up the Black Friday and Christmas shopping week boosts? This would mean we drop off the first week of '08 and pick up an extra week on the end (which would take us about a week and a half into January for the final week). Honestly I think it would be kind of goofy, but lining up the major boosts has a certain amount of logic to it."

no, id agree with what you have done... its the last ten weeks, if you were to move it, id have to say you need to have an 11 week count down like those odd 5 week npd moths.

on your question in red, i feel ps3 sales would be up, but 360 sales would not be down... would make it a year of growth for the ps3 say trend 10% over the last year

Just so you know I think ioi said in another thread sales will drop 50 - 60% next week (week 9)

I too agree it seems as if sales could rise next week but everybody is saying different. I can't wait to see the numbers though!

Great work Sqrl!

Btw, do you think the Xbox 360 will be able to clear +50% margins over the previous year?
