Finnally! Well, I give you my reasons and I expect you would tell me why do you think it is so good. Deal?

This game seems to be "untouchable" since everyone says it is so good.

First of all I have never played a Metroid game in my life, but I did played lots od FPS, mostly on PC

1) It has no charm, no story. It is so damm "serious", to me that it is just... dry. We had enough of that kind of attitude with Doom and Quake. It assumes the player already know who is character, the story and everything. So the game doesn't try to win you over emotionally.

2) Not very original. I have the feeling of "been there, done that". As a genre FPS game it is boring. Kind of more of the same. (You, know, spacemarines fighting aliens)

3) I hated the original stufff. In my view, the features that may be original, aren't that cool. The Hud, for example slow down the fun for me. If I buy a RPG I expect that I will have to read a lot. There are tons of reading in MPC that I didn't expect and just made the experience slower. The morphing ball, is also original, but very "unfun" and some times forced. All the alien environments are designed so the morphing ball perfectly fits and some door gets unlocked. And why is it that when Samus becomes a morphing ball you can have a third person camera but when shooting or jumping you cannot? Why not give me a third person camera option?

It is not bad game, I just didn't find it 99% good. Maybe 85%. I'm telling you, it strongly assumes that the player is a long time fan.

So please, give me reasons to finish the damm game.

There you go.

If only you bothered playing the first Prime games (and probably Metroid Fusion, more about it later), you would have found quite a few innovations.

First of all, the story is simply the continuation of the last two Prime games. The story as a few resemblance to Metroid Fusion, meaning it is already more story-driven than past Metroid games, and the way Retro Studios handled it didn't really change the atmosphere of being lonely like in the old Metroid games. As a fan of the series, I don't really want this to change, so Metroid is probably not your cup of tea in the first place. The only complaint I might have is how they've introduced three other bounty hunters out of nowhere and made them die without even knowing their back story (other than reading in the Logbook)... But that's a minor complaint if you ask me, because the game is about Samus' journey with the Phazon and Dark Samus anyways. The ending tells us that there will be a continuation of the other bounty hunters though, so the complaint might go away completely. It is more than just a story of a bounty hunter (or space marine, lol... How original) against aliens, and even if it is, the Metroid series is old enough that I could even call it the mother of all those games!

Second of all, nothing new in the gameplay? Please, I've heard it enough from PC gamers, it makes me sick. First, play the game with the advanced control setting; second, disable the auto-aim when lock-on, and the game is as fun as any FPS with a mouse and keyboard (even better). The nunchuck is useful for many new things, like grapping sections of a wall and pulling them out for a few other puzzle elements, or even tearing apart a Space Pirate shield (they've been the villains in the entire series, if you didn't already know). The interaction with Samus' ship is nothing like we've ever seen before. Don't be like Greg Casavin from GameSpot and say that it brings nothing new to the table when he didn't even get past the first planet (pathetic). Even though Retro removed a few staples from the Prime series (like interchangeable weapons, the power bombs in a way, and a few visors), I couldn't complain about it, because they way the game plays, it wouldn't need them. The third-person camera isn't incorporated because they wanted to make you feel like the bounty hunter in the first Prime game, and it worked ever since. How would you be able to control the morph ball in first-person, or heck, even the screw attack? This isn't Bethesda here. Also, the Prime series is stapled for being a first-person adventure game, and that's what it is. Maybe you're just not a fan of the new genre, because it isn't heavy on shooting humans/aliens (just saying)? Also, the Logbook is an extra, and extras are what they are. You don't need to know the Chozo lores and all that stuff, but scanning was always an essential part of the gameplay in the Prime series (it's not that difficult to realise that something needs to be powered to work anyways), and if scanning isn't necessary, the Wiimote's intuitive controls make it possible so you press the buttons or turn a handle instead. Oh well, change is bad apparently.

Third of all, when did the Metroid series ever become realistic? Educate yourself by playing Super Metroid and Metroid Zero Mission at least, and then we can talk about it. There are a few reasons to explain the whole thing, because Chozo were a living civilization that built a lot of things in space. Samus was trained by them if you didn't know, and all her technology is from them. I could talk about it more if you want to know though, because it's quite interesting!

Like you said, you have to be a fan to really appreciate all the new stuff. The new story-driven aspect of the game evolves the series in a new direction that I'm quite liking, and I can't wait to see what Retro's going to do next with the series. Hey, besides, Metroid Prime 3: Corruption is a new Metroid game, so what are we arguing about? We've waited 10 years for the continuation of the series before Prime arrived, and new games are more than welcomed. ;)

Nah... I play games for fun.

And that could be a pretty good definition for "Overrated": Games that aren't that good, except for the harcore fans. For the rest of the people this overrated games are just good games.

Sad that you just commented on that bold part. :/

I guess all game series are overrated then, and fans of them must be weird or something.

I cannot argue with you, because you are a fan. You know it all about the saga and I know nothing. But since you put so much detail in your answer, I am giving you a more extense response now, as a cortesy.

All the series overrated? I don't think so, but still how can I know? I didn´t play those games. I suppose they were excellent in their way, in their moment. But this single game, alone, without the story and the love of its fans, is just not a 99%. It is more like a 75%-85%, to me.

If you see the reviews, you will notice that all of them rate the game always taking the saga into account, but not as an isolated experience played by someone who just happened to have a Wii. To some extent, is the same thing with some sequels like, GTA IV, Halo III, and others.

The single game, without the prequels, is not that good. Is it a bad game? No at all. Just overrated, specially if you are not a fan.

Yeah, I get it. As long as what you say makes sense, then it's all good. If it was a fanboy reason or something, then it would have been different! It's like 360 fanboys downgrading Metal Gear Solid 4 when they never even played any games from the series anyways.

Oh, and I was talking about game series in general, not just the Metroid series.

Why is Bionic Commando Rearmed 2 getting so much hate? We finally get a real game and they're not even satisfied... I'm starting to hate the gaming community so f****** much...

When I said you are a fan, I meant no offense. I wasn't saying you were blinded with irrational passion. I was saying that I am doom to a failure in a debate against your knowledge about the Metroid games. But I did played MPC, like half of it, because I got bored. Why? I asked myself: everyone says it is great. But I just couldn't get my self to finish it. I just don't care about it...

All the series that were once good have the risk to get overrated by hype and fanatism. MPC was to some extent, probably not as bad as GTA IV or Halo III.

Is there something wrong or weird with fans? Maybe. I, for example, don't care about the bad reviews of Star Wars TFU or Light Sabers duels. I will get them anyway and enjoy them, and appreciate them way more than anyone unfamiliar with Star Wars. I am probably, going to find them less sucky, compared to anyone else, because I can see a lot things very meanigful to me in very little details of the Star Wars world.

And, in the case of the Nintendo Wii, there's a considerable expanded market. People who didn't have a Nintendo machine before. That's my case. So i got the game because all the great reviews and the game treated my like an inconditional fan it took me for granted. For me it was good but not great.

This Gen??? GTA4 easily.....

Yeah, mostly all old series have been established to death now, so for new gamers I guess it could be kind of hard to invest time in them. This is why I like companies like Capcom though, they try to bring their old franchises back this generation for other new gamers to enjoy (Bionic Commando for example). Starting over seems to be the only way to get more fans, and if the consumer is interested in the characters and all, it's quite easier to enjoy the whole story behind it all because there's a ton of games that came out before for the same series. You just go to eBay (or use an emulator), and you're all set to go! That's why Metal Gear Solid 4 and Metroid Prime 3: Corruption is so special for fans.

New games that aren't built on anything (new IPs for example) and are just there for one night enjoyment or whatever are obviously more appealing to new gamers. I didn't see it from this perspective though, so I'm glad you talked to me about it, but it was just the unsupported statement at the beginning that shocked me! =P

Getting an XBOX One for me is like being in a bad relationship but staying together because we have kids. XBone we have 20000+ achievement points, 2+ years of XBL Gold and 20000+ MS points. I think its best we stay together if only for the MS points.

Nintendo Treehouse is what happens when a publisher is confident and proud of its games and doesn't need to show CGI lies for five minutes.

I'm struggling with the notion of Half Life 2 being overrated... but I guess to some people it must have been.

On a similar note I also found MSG to be fun but not what I was expecting from the hype/sales. So I guess for that game I'm the one in the strange minority who thought it was cute but only 'okay' as a game and actually nothing really new.

Try to be reasonable... its easier than you think...
