Forums - Sony - I decided on getting a PS3, now I have a few questions...

Well looks like I'm gonna save $40 bucks....I'm not sure how, but my PS3 is working fine online without the router that I bought, so looks like I'll be refunding it and using the cash for another game. The first PS3 I bought was a 40gb version, not sure if that had anything to do with it. I've actually had 2 random disconnects so far though - one of them was fixed by restoring the system defaults, and the other by changing my IP info.....On my computer, I did cmd -> ipconfig /all, then updated the ps3 with the new info.

How long has the XMB been available within a game? It wasn't like that when I got the 40gb.

Though I'll most likely be sticking with this ps3, one of the big reasons I almost got a 360 was not really for the games, but just cause how popular it is here in the US - I know more people with one. That, and the fact that it already comes with a headset so there'll be more chatter.....though I hear it's bad most of the time anyways =/ I felt that even if I wasn't satisfied with the 360 exclusives, I'll at least have an easier time meeting people with one in person.

Besides Killzone 2 which is sorta almost out, I kinda also my made decision based on some games that are coming out after that, such as MAG, God of War 3, etc, so I'm really really hoping those games end up being worth waiting for or I'll be really dissapointed. And of course, there's Home.

Also, how's Motorstorm 2? I just downloaded the demo and it's really fun but, it got only an 80 from metacritic. Is there something wrong with it? I can't spend too much money on games so I wanna make sure every game I purchase is well worth it.

In Game XMB has been there since July I think. It really helps, but you can't really do anything with the in game XMB yet; you can't even tweak settings.

I didn't like the Pacific Rift demo, the controls didn't seem accurate, but if you liked it, go for it. Be cautious, though. More than once (well actually, once) I've tried and loved a demo only to end up disliking the game (Ninja Gaiden Sigma- it's too hard!)

Could you actually play music while playing a game? I don't have any games on my ps3 yet so I just downloaded some demos: Motorstorm 2, Resistance 1, and Soul Calibur 4. None of them let me play music ingame.

I also hope Resistance 2 will be good...it's one of the games I was waiting for, but I almost hated the R1 demo. The whole feel to the game was awkward, too much to explain. Controls were one of the things I disliked.

depends of the title... old titles no, but new ones many include that feature.

Disgaea 3 is an awesome ps3 exclusive JRPG.

You can litteraly spend thousands of hours on that game and still have things to do.

It's actually a bit overwhelming imho.

We'll miss you George.

It took me a long time to make the decision, but the games that really helped me make up my mind: MGS4, LBC, Resistance 2, and I'm definitely hoping Killzone 2 turns out to be somethin good....

1:  Is the PS3 version of Fallout 3 really bad? I wasn't interested in it at first, but after watching some vids of it's gameplay, I thought it looked really cool. What exacly is wrong with the ps3 version? And about how many hours of gameplay does it have?

2:  Are there any good exclusive RPG's out right now, or coming to the PS3? I've heard all this talk of JRPG's being made mostly for the 360. My reactions about it are mixed - I love RPG's but I've also never played a single JRPG. I'd like to try one out sometime though - the gameplay on some of them seem really nice.

3:  MMORPG's - Do they even exist on consoles at all?

4:  This might be an awkward question, but it's a big one for me - When it comes to online play, is PSN poplular? For example, if I was to play somethin like Unreal Tournament 3 online, would I have trouble finding a game to join? I used to play Call of Duty: United Offensive for hours upon hours on my PC. I quit for sometime, then went back to it only to find out that there wasn't many servers to choose from anymore since everyone had moved onto CoD2. Now it's probably worse with CoD4 out, and will probably go near-dead when CoD5. Will I have have this problem when it comes to playing FPS games online? It's something I've been wondering about for a while...

5: Install times - they were frustrating in MGS4 when starting a new Act. I thought I'd only have to go through them once. Is there somethin I can do about it?

That's all I can think of for now.

I've bought both a 360 and PS3 before to try them out, and refunded both. Unfortunately, I was never able to connect to PSN, probably cause I didn't have a router. So what I'm gonna do is buy a PS3 with a router and see if that works. If for some reason it doesn't, I'll basically be forced to switch to 360 since I won't even bother with either if I can't play online. It was kinda hard for me to decide on a PS3 since 360's are so popular here in the US - having the more poplular console would be nice since you'll be more likely to play with people you know.

1.) I bought the 360 version instead of the PS3 version just because there was an uproar about the differences, but the only thing that differs is apparently the PS3 version has a little washed out graphics on certain surfaces and such

2.) White Knight Chronicles is coming out soon, in Japan at least, plus Eternal Sonata, and while FFXIII isn't exclusive anymore (and still some time off) it's coming and FFVXIII is exlcusive. And if you like strategy, then you can't go wrong with Valkyria Chronicles (why do RPGs have to be "Chronicles"? lol)

3.) SOE, that is all

4.) PSN is popular...UT3..not so much. If that's your main focus, can't help you there, but if you play COD4, Warhawk, Resistance, etc. then you will never have a problem finding a game. Like someone above me said, 12 million users

5.) MGS4 is the only one with multiple installs.

1) Fallout on PS3 is ok, nothing bad that will ruin the experience
2)exclusive RPGs: Disgaea 3, Valkyria Chronicles(out this month), White Knight Story(coming soon)
3) MMORPGs exist on consoles
4) PSN is very popular with millions of users. no problem with my games
5) did MGS4 installs really bother you? you don't want to Spare like 4 minutes of your life?

Buy Uncharted! Even if you think it looks meh, looks like Dude Raider, or whatever, but it. You won't regret it.

I had little interest in Uncharted before buying it, outside of the fact that it was made by Naughty Dog (I loved Jak & Daxter, and was sad that they made this instead of Jak 4), but when I bought it...wow. It immediately shot up to my favorite ps3 game, and now rests right behind LBP and MGS4.

I bought UT3 today since it was only $17 used at Gamestop. There's hardly any online matches to pick from, which was sorta dissapointing. I didn't actually plan on playing it online alot, but I was using it mainly as an example, wondering if an old game such as that would still be somewhat populated. I guess it shouldn't be surprised since it's a year old....and they had the guts to take out the Assault game type =/ Does anyone know if Soul Calibur 4 is at least active online? I downloaded the demo and it's a tad bit fun.

Anyways.....I hear good comments about Uncharted all the time, so I'm sorta tempted to get it. The thing is I can't spend too much money on games at the moment so I'm looking for good quality games with high replayability (Of course LBP is on my list). How long does Uncharted take to finish? It's been over 3 years since I've been into console gaming, and this time around I'm sorta avoiding single-player games that are quick to finish.

So far, I have 2 minor issues with my PS3:

1: Everytime my IP changes, I get disconnected from PSN. I have to reconnect the ethernet cable back into my PC, then turn it on and get the new IP info then put it in the PS3's network settings. Is there something I can do to make my IP not change at all? It seems to happen randomly - I think the longest I've went without getting disconnected was 5-6 hours. Not a big prob, but can be a little annoying sometimes.

2: My sound sucks really bad. Before I got my PS3, my TV was pretty much unused so I'm pretty behind on times these days.....what would solve the problem better: a new TV or some good speakers? I'm using an old box TV from '04 - the image quality is pretty bad.

Thanks for all the replies so far.
