Um... whose? If the PSP did nearly that many, it should be a given the DS' demand will be even higher. I wonder why Nintendo seems to release so few the opening week...

^ Good question. I'm guessing it will be counted as the same. Even though the DSi *can* play some software the DS can't - for now anyway, this software will not be released though retail (and won't be tracked explicitly).

Same idea that the PSP-2000 *could* play some games that the PSP-1000 can't (as it has more RAM) - but its still effectively the same system.

I have a feeling now that Ninty has a "taste" for the digital distribution drug - they won't be letting go. They must love not dealing with retailers or manufacturing - their two biggest gripes.

Wow great news but hardly unexpected. And it should be included in the DS numbers as the DSi is still a DS.

It's very likely Nintendo's hardware presses are under quite a strain with all these devices they make, and the rate they are selling them. Nintendo will probably sell more DS units than LBP will sell copies, this week in Japan, just to give perspective on Nintendomination in that country.

Sony's 3000 launch timeframe suddenly makes sense. Get ready for DSi to sell like a million units a week forever.

Nintendo is already producing over two million DS Lites every month. Combine that with 2.4 million Wii consoles, all sorts of Wii peripherals and controllers (Wii Fit + Balance Board, Wii Remotes, Nunchucks, Classic Controllers, etc), and anything else they may be manufacturing, and it's about impossible for them to manufacture much more than that.

They probably already have all their factories at full capacity, so in order to keep up with demand for everything else, they had to very cautiously reorganize their manufacturing. They only had a very, very little bit of space to manufacture extra items, so they were very constrained in how many DSi units could be made.
