Forums - Nintendo - The old CoD4 debate on Wii a year later

How can you say that games will look even better than The Conduit on the Wii when you get more experienced developers on there. By that same notion, wouldn't 360 and really PS3 benefit more from that? It's widely known how horrible PS3 is to develop on, and wouldn't finding out stuff to make the PS3 work better make the games look better too? Same applies to 360 about finding things to make it look better.

You seem to be in the realm where PS3 and 360 will stagnate development-wise, but Wii will continue to be developed until it looks as good.

Don't derail nor put words in my mouth.  The topic is the same as it was a year ago you take CoD4 as a high standard of graphics on a HD console that's the single game and graphics we're talking about here not a future game, not Killzone 2, not Gears of War 2, CoD4 by the end of Wii's lifetime could developers make something as visually stunning?

I'm not in any "stagnant development" frame of mind about PS3 and 360, I know the PS3 has a LONG way to go and there will probably always be something to find on the console, I'm not taking about from development on PS3 nor 360.  The discussion is simply as I've said CoD4 type of visually pleasing graphics on Wii, period.

Come on DMJ you've been around long enough to know I'm not some fanboy trying to take away from other consoles, if you've been reading my posts since about August I've started hunting for a cheap PS3 with BC so I can play a few of the PS2 games I missed out on.  I don't know why you thought I was trying to say developers will stop developing on PS3 and 360, that will never happen, if anything it may slow down at best especially if MS does the 5 year plan cause developers will stop putting resources to make this gens HD console standards and will start making much better looking stuff, but multiconsole games on the "next box" and PS3 developers might put more time into the "next box" and stop trying on PS3 that's just a theory but I really hope MS would not come out with a new console so soon, it would be a horrible choice for everyone, developers, customers, and microsoft.

Of course you're not a fanboy or anything, just that if Developers can find out more things about the Wii to make games look better, PS360 developers can do that also. So there will always be a moving target for developers to hit to make a Wii game look like a PS360 game.

@DMJ

The discussion isn't about making the Wii look like current standards of the HD consoles rather make Wii look as good as a year old game, IE CoD4

I think if anyone pulls it off it'll be high voltage. There really the only ones that seem to want to push wii.

Support good third party games on wii. Buy games like house of the dead overkill, de blob, madworld, the conduit and boom blox.

It's simply not going to happen. No game on Wii will ever look as good as COD4 and I don't care how you compare it. It's not going to happen.

I have to agree with Username2324.

CoD4 was a mid-console-lifespan (several years into the 360's release) game on platforms substantially more capable than the Wii.  The Wii cannot hope to ever have a game that "looks as good".

Wii fanboys need to stop wanting the Wii to be some hot gaming console, and stand in line with the zillions of Wii owners who bought it for what it truly represents (casual fun).  It is not a HD console.  It is an architecture now some 6 years past its prime (whereas the X360 and PS3 were on par with high-end PCs at the time of their release, the Wii was not), that is just plain not capable of meeting the HD consoles head on.  The Wii's fantastic sales #s have nothing to do with its technological "power", so expecting developers to squeeze enough out of it to compete with even older HD games is... ridiculous.

If you want a game like CoD4 on your TV, buy a X360 or a PS3.. or hook your PC to your TV.  Miracles aren't going to magically appear from your favorite Wii developer.  Lets see some shipped Wii software from Factor 5 or High Voltage, before we start believing they can make the Wii look that good.  HV had trouble even getting a publisher for The Conduit until recently... that doesn't say much for the game, really.  Factor 5's last game was an utter failure (Lair, PS3) -- especially in the framerate dept., pretty much proving they don't understand any architectures other than the GC and Wii (which are really simple by comparison to the other consoles), so they shouldn't be making comparisons.

Factor 5 did a good job with the GC... with space games, which are *really* easy to make look good.  Their first foray into something deeper... sucked.  I don't even consider their comments serious anymore.

Jesus where do I start with heaping pile of shit you just spewed out.

Calling Wii users that like good games Wii fanboys, that's a laugh, I mean that's like saying gamers want games are all fanboys.  And 6 years past it's prime is nothing but a troll statement, it's more powerful then any last gen console get over it.  PS3 and 360 were not on par with high end PCs mid-high grade PCs tops, 360 especially.

HVS had no problems at all finding a publisher for The Conduit they had a lot of choices from the very moment they revealed the game on IGN lots of publishers wanted in on the game and their Quantum 3 engine.

If you want easy architecture you're talking about Xbox and 360, GC and Wii is more simple cause Nintendo actually thinks about the development costs of it's 3rd party supporters, Sony makes their architecture as hard as possible to emulate cause they fear pirates, but the plain and simple truth is Nintendo made GC that has yet to had a emulator that played more then Smash Brothers and demos, which proves you can make things simple for devs while keeping it protected from hackers.

Just no... you must have never even played a Rouge Squadron game ever, so you really have no opinion or say in this matter or the judgement to say anything in this thread.

I've seen you post around the threads and you never contribute a damn thing to any Nintendo centric thread you've commented in, a lot of us are starting to get tired of having threads derailed and trolled by people like you, stop it, either add something to the thread or don't comment at all, you can ask questions, give your two cents when it comes to experiences, but the trolling needs to stop.  I'm usually a nice guy and don't report anything but serious trolling but it's getting out of hand now, so in short I see trolling from now on I'm reporting it, alright?

If the Wii was so easy to program for, how are you able to claim there is still alot of room for advancement?

And I like how anything not pro-Wii is trolling. The creation of this thread is just your attempt at glorifying the Wii.

It's a simple machine, meant for casual gaming, exactly what Nintendo itself said it was. To try to say it has this hidden power and hardcore ability is pointless. Are games going to look better for it as time continues? Yes, they most likely will, but you're not going to see the advancement that you're praying for. Get over it.

This thread was real simple, are Wii games going to look better? Yes. End of thread. But no you had to go and say stuff like "Soon we'll have games that look like COD4" which as I said is NEVER going to happen, NEVER.

Oh man you failed so hard right there I feel sorry for you. HVS got tons of offers from publishers after the game was officially announced at IGN. They were even able to finish the game before deciding on a publisher, so the publishers couldn't interfer with the quality of the game.

No derailing a thread and then not adding anything to the discussion is trolling.  It's against the substance rule.

From teh rulez: "If you have nothing to add to a topic, then go to another topic and post in there instead. Similarly, even if it's well defended, repeating your opinion about a console or game multiple times is also spamming."

The discussion is about how the Wii can look better, you want to talk about PS3 and 360, when the topic isn't about the PS3 or the 360, you're not adding anything to the thread and therefore violating the rules.  So add something or leave simple as that.
