Why does everyone talk about the console wars as if the "loser" suddenly disappears forever?

It won't Suddenly disappear. I'm just saying the future dosen't look bright for a £130 console if it gets beat by a £299 console.

Why do Sony supporters always state that the 360 is £130?  The arcade isn't even the most popular model.

The arcade is £129.99

The pro is £169.99

The elite is £229.99

Because that's the pricetag Microsoft slaps on its adverts and that is the price the majority of the public are seeing.

Face the facts, the 360 is selling horribly for its price.

The facts? What facts? Oh you mean your OPINION that 360 is selling horribly for its price?

Facts are right there in the numbers. Being outsold by a console more than twice the price. I'd call that pretty pathetic.

Currently, the 360 isn't being outsold by the PS3.  The PS3 isn't more than twice the price of the pro or elite models of the 360. In terms of sales figures, the PS3 is the same amount behind the 360 as when it launched.

I won't ask where you pulled your facts out of.

The PS3 is outselling the 360 in Europe where the the 360 is less than half the price of the PS3. All of Microsoft's adverts in Europe are for the £130 model, therefore that is the price consumers see. How many more time do I have to tell you before it gets into your head?

Don't come out with the 'I was talking about wordwide' crap because you know I'm talking about where the PS3 is over twice the cost of the 360 and that is in Europe.

Facts are that the 360 had a whole year in the market before anyone else launched and its now looking pretty certain that it will finish 3rd this generation, or will Microsoft rush their next console out too so that they can claim the generation has ended before the PS3 outsells the 360?

goddog: oh, no. IF the PS3 had a $50 price cut this year, that would be a desperation move, a fire sale as I put it. But from launch to dec 07? they effectively cut the price $100, but it was not the same product (features) 'cause the new 80GB was not full BC as the $600 60GB, and the new 40GB introduced october 07 at $400 you know all it lacks , so don't play dumb dude.

Again you fail. The 360's line up is decent but to say it's as strong as Sony's, especially since some of those games you mentioned haven't been given solid release dates/windows, is just being biased but, judging from your sig, I now see why you post the way you do.

Look, It's obvious to me that this thread was created to spread yet more sony "Love" Now if someone says the 360 is going to be potentially "Finished" after the festive season then i'm obviously going to put forward some reasons as to why i think it won't be finished by the end of the festive season, I know Sony have some Great games coming out for it, But  the 360 games coming soon overall to me are every bit as good.

The thread asked the question initially "Does anyone actually expect the ps3 to outsell the 360 this xmas" But then when i look at the contents inside the thread it refers to sonys "outstanding" line up and the possible price cut for the ps3 next year, So because the thread went off track in to sony favouritism i also went off track and defended the console of my choice........................ Thats the be all and end all of it.

@ Snake

LOL, I think you are the only angry one here. I only need to read your username to see you are a fanboy. I know the Xbox arcade is £130, but I also know Microsoft do the pro and elite. You don't seem to have heard of those models.

The 360 may eventually finish 3rd at the end of its lifetime. Do you think I care? As long as it keeps getting the games, I don't. It needed market share to get publishers to go multi-platform and has succeeded in doing so. Last gen the PS2 outsold the XBox by almost 5 to 1. Two years after launch the PS3 is still trailing the 360 by the same amount as when it launched. Those are the facts that matter.

Nintendo dominate this gen, but Microsoft are also in the ascendency. There is still scope for Sony to do well but they are not the force they used to be.

By the way, worldwide sales are what counts and you know it.

Forza 3
Halo 3 recon

So that's the Xbox's line-up, here's the PS3's

inFamous
Gran Turisom 5
Heavy Rain
God of War 3
Uncharted 2
Ratchet and Clank 2009
White Knight Chronicles
Final Fantasy XIII (Japan only)
Killzone 2
MAG

and sony say they have some things up their sleeves....

I won't deny that Sony has an "outstanding" line up, I'm Just saying that due to delays to certain games i also consider the 360's line up to be "outstanding"

Well if you labelling them both outstanding, I would say that you are basically saying they are equivalent, which they are not. I don't think I am going to buy any games for Xbox from that list, though I will buy Mass Effect 2 and probably Dragon Age Origins, the former may be a timed exclusive, and also Star Ocean 4, likely another timed exclusive

Also, I hope I answered your question about further hardware moving games

Thats fair enough, I respect your point of view and if you prefer sonys line up to microsofts then fair play to you. When i eventually get my 2nd hand ps3 in 2010 i'm looking forward to playing some of sonys 2009 line up, But as of now i'm more pumped for the great games that are already out for the 360 and the great games that are still to come.

As for your console selling games? I'm sure some of them will sell consoles, But its not like the 360 is suddenly going to stop selling now is it........ Especially with it stiil having the best "Overall" line up of games if you take in to account Past and Present releases.

That was worth posting.

They'll be pretty equal. 360 takes NA, PS3 takes others.

Isn't the X-mas boost largest in the US though?

Considering that and the economic downturn... it wouldn't surprise me if had one more Christmas... on top... er... well in the middle.

What do people mean by "being in trouble"?....The way I see it, a console is potentially 'in trouble' when 3rd parties don´t support it, since most games come from them (the exception being the N64 was almost completely supported on 1st and 2nd party titles).

And since both the 360 and PS3 are and will be sharing about 85% to 90% of the high profile 3rd party titles, regardless of who sells more... I don´t see these systems "in trouble", from a pure gaming perspective.
