Forums - PC Discussion - Is WoW a drug?

Wow is as much a drug as casino gambling that you can magically do on your computer but has the same experience as being in a casino would be a drug. So basically, yes, but technically no. But it sure is addictive to some... though most people I know who play it merely form a sad dependency that makes their life slightly worse without them even realizing it. For some people it give them more friends and motivates them, so to each his own.

It's consumeris/elitism at its finest. People think they have satus, wealth, power in the game because they can, however non of that is real, it's just the simulation of that.

Well, I'm not sure but I think a drug is a substance that does something to your physiology. As previously stated, not all drugs are addictive (it's even called drug-store...) and not all things addictive are drugs.

Sex is a drug because it's addictive!

Look how wrong that statement is.

Most addictions are bad, making you less a part of the real world. World of Warcraft can be extremely bad. But it doesn't alter your physiology.

Does anyone even know what "figure of speech" is anymore?

N64 is the ONLY console of the fifth generation!!!

I have a used-to-be friend whose life revolves around the game. He'll be up until all hours of the night and into the wee of the morning playing (I used to be his roommate), he'll put off homework to play, he'll skip class to play, he refuses to do anything remotely social--yes, I'd call it a drug. Sure as hell put a damper on my relationship with my friend.

Could I trouble you for some maple syrup to go with the plate of roffles you just served up?

You know how would EverQuest players (WoW's grand-daddy) referred to the game? EverCrack.

Draw your own conclusions.

Current-gen game collection uploaded on the profile, full of win and good games; also most of my PC games. Lucasfilm Games/LucasArts 1982-2008 (Requiescat In Pace).

I find that wow use to be a drug like to me. However it moves further and further into more of an arcade / pvp game that it lost its magic to me. I quit playing for the 2nd time. Zzzz

Now the real drug was EQ back in its day. Oh man.

No, in my opinion it was not something you could get overly addicted to and everyone I know who plays has been able to quit before.

No, comparing drugs to games is like comparing sports to to school work

I think calling WoW a drug is insulting to a lot of drugs. Many drugs are mildly or entirely non-addictive and often have little impact on a persons' life. I personally enjoy a wide variety of drugs but WoW on the other-hand is an endless grindfest that I wouldn't touch with a ten foot pole.
