no need for you to talk like that. all i have to say is that: some people disbelieve in the fact that it is completely possible for vgchartz to have made an error and undertrack ps3 sales by 600k or so. it could go either way because this article doesnt cleary state whether the numbers are shipped or if they are sold to consumers

The artile does not, but the thread does clarify a lot. There are several different explanations of what he is commenting on (including one from you) that he is intentionally ignoring for no apparent reason. Willful ignorance does not deserve a calm response. It deserves angry responses to shock them into paying attention.

Your an idiot. Its not 600k PS3s, the data is through September 30 when Sony reports to investors.

We have sellthrough at 15.6m for Sept 30 for PS3.

When Nintendo reports its data tonight you'll see that we have Wii lower by a million or two million. We have it 32.75m through Sept 30 but the shipments are going to be 34m or 35m.

I don't see why this is so hard for you people to understand. Again, why would Nintendo, Sony, and Microsoft all report random figures at the same time of year for the same period if there wasn't a reason?

Again why would Nintendo, Sony and Microsoft want to report "16.84m" if they could wait a little while and say 20m? Its because they have to tell their investors and the government how the hell they are performing. We're not their customers - Walmart, Best Buy, etc are.

Sony doesnt give a shit if you buy $1000 in PS3 games from Walmart. Sorry to burst your bubble. The companies care that Walmart bought $100m worth of PS3s.

Once they know that, they pay companies like NPD to track where the product is ending up. If you and little Johnny stop buying PS3 all of the sudden, there is a correlation because Walmart wont buy more. But it would have to be millions of people not buying. Again, this is why they need data beyond what they can track themselves - sales to videogame stores and general retailers.

thanks for clearing that up for me- even though i wasnt even arguing on whether it was about the numbers being shipped or sold to consumers.

If you refuse to read and understand what we are explaining what do you expect us to do?

We give you links. You keep misinterpreting it. Sellthrough is not equal to shipments. Sony like every other company in this industry calls shipments "sales" in these reports because you and I don't buy their products directly. So if your talking to an investor, like Sony is here, your saying that Walmart, Best Buy, Akihabra, GAME, etc bought over 2m PS3s.

Again, do you think they travel around the world every data asking for retail data from the 50,000 stores in the world that sell videogames? If they could do that what the fuck would be the point of professional sales trackers, or Vgchartz?

Think about it.

For the last time, its not a 600k discrepency either between sell through and shipments for PS3. Its over 1m because the data on the front page is through mid October while Sony is reporting data through September 30. On Sept 26, we had PS3 at 15.66m or so.

I'm not trying to be mean, but this only seems to happen in Sony threads started by users with 50 posts who seem to join the site just to say we're wrong, when instead they are ignorant.

I save all the posts from each quarter when it happens and the collection is well into the hundreds.

lol. I can't believe these type of threads popped up again. I thought we were done and everyone knew it was shipped rather than sold...guess not. But it was pretty much the same generic people misinterpreting then Source coming in here. Later on ioi will come to make it official lulz.

It's shipped not sold dood. I can give you tons of links of threads on the same subject that we've had in the past (though you've only signed up in May so you probably might not have known).

i tend to avoid going on these types of threads. guess i was in the wrong place in the wrong time, eh?

Thanks! I need to bookmark this. It's sad this was created years ago and we still go through the same thing every three months.

I figured it would be thousands by now.
