Forums - Sales - If LittleBigPlanet Sales Are Not That Great What Does It Mean For PS3?

@ Starcraft

The hell... No PS3 fan is backing away from LBP. Linkies?

OT:

We haven't seen 1st week sales yet, we saw limited first day sales from some Game-Stops on Saturday. This weeks sales will be over last week definitely, If it does only 250 this week, it'd be an accomplishment, for a new IP of a 400k first week.

I say let's wait until next week before we start talking about the sales not being great. If they're lower than last week, then you may have a point, if they're higher, which all signs point to them being, then you may pwn urself.

So we now have day 1 sales in Japan which saw 30k....

I'm guessing that was not good considering the 360 version of GTA4 sold 27k?

So what happens now? Do we start talking about White Knight Chronicles as the last game to help PS3? To be honest though i can't see that happening especially as Square Enix seem to be releasing a lot of new games on 360 as well as that other Japanese loved title Star Ocean etc..

So do people still think 400k in America in 1st week is going to happen?

its simple lbp is the game we thought it was, and if you want to crown them then crown them.... looks for clip of denny green rant

Dont worry LBP will sell very well. The real question is will LBP sell consoles beyond a little blip. The fact of the matter is console libraries sell consoles not an individual game. Yes some games may cause a small bump, but good titles just keep consoles sales going.

Its libraries that sell systems not a single game.

What do you mean by "LBP is the game we thought it was?"

I call BS on that one. The game has had so much hype and so much accolade over the past 2 years. So much air time on tv shows, so much time in magazines etc.. etc.. that i just canno't believe for a seccond that anyone expected it to sell just 3k more then a 360 game in Japan. Sorry but that is running damage control to the max!

It has nothing to do with "green rant". It should have sold more then that, a lot more. It is astonishing that it didn't.

LBP IS HUGE!
even if it sells 1 copy :p

I have a Wii but I'am a moderate PS Fanboy Hoping for a PS3 price cut

Liberty is when the sheep has a gun.

The price of the system (PS3 at $400 for a stripped out console) do not justify the sales of a game running for $60, sorry. The only PS3 units that will be moved are the bundles from people who would want the system, but people who already own the PS3 will get the game because that majority won't help move consoles, just sales. As stated that the libraries help move a console, I agree, but it would also have to be with the back catalog of games, which are the PS2.

I have stated it time and time again as the PS3 isn't selling out is because people would love to play their old games as well as new. Why do you think the vast majority of the Wii systems are being sold? Because people still own GCN games, but new people are buying the system who never owned a GCN.

Plus people would want a console that is more affordable since the economy has been bad, and this will also hurt the sales of the PS3, but not the game. Don't count your Chocobos before they hatch.

Sales will be fine over the long haul. I don't think it will do as good as a lot of people think it will, but it will be fine.

The more important question this year is how Resistance 2 fares against Gears of War 2. It has to make an impact otherwise, the holiday season is in jeopardy of a 3rd place finish unlike last year where they came second (Worldwide).

Whatever LBP succeed or not,, it will not really change the fath of the PS3

==> second place say "Hi !"

Time to Work !

I expect it to follow the same pattern that Uncharted did. First week bombed, but sales definitely picked up over time with word of mouth. This kind of game will definitely have some legs.

"Naturally the common people don't want war: Neither in Russia, nor in England, nor for that matter in Germany. That is understood. But, after all, IT IS THE LEADERS of the country who determine the policy and it is always a simple matter to drag the people along, whether it is a democracy, or a fascist dictatorship, or a parliament, or a communist dictatorship. Voice or no voice, the people can always be brought to the bidding of the leaders. That is easy. All you have to do is TELL THEM THEY ARE BEING ATTACKED, and denounce the peacemakers for lack of patriotism and exposing the country to danger. IT WORKS THE SAME IN ANY COUNTRY."  --Hermann Goering, leading Nazi party member, at the Nuremberg War Crime Trials
