I think the interesting this is that most likely Fable 2 sales for week one will be > than LBP sales week 1+2. So even taking into account the fudged up launch it looks like Fable 2 beat the consensus and outsold LBP.

Interestingly, anyone want to take bets on which game will have higher LTD sales the first week of Jan 2009?

The vast majority of people predicted that Fable II would sell better than LBP week 1, so this is not suprise.

Huh? I might be mistaken but I felt the majority thought that LBP > Fable 2?

Anyway im not trying to rub it into peoples faces or anything like that.

Thread from earlier this month aobut 1st week sales:  Fable vs LBP sales thread  A quick count of opinions gives 4 for LBP and 22 for Fable II.  85% for Fable II.

LBP had a lot more hype on the internets, but Fable II and the 360 hardcore buyers were sure to win out.

Hardly anyone at all thought LBP > Fable 2 first week sales. I dont get why people are comparing the sales of these two games. They are from completely different genres and one is a new IP and the other is a sequel.

What are you talking about? People here said that it had a lot more pre-orders than Brawl, and Maro Galaxy, and that it will be the best seller all this gen.

Some comments:

  • get me some syrup cause im buying those pancakes, LBP is gonna be bigger than anyone here can realize (and the replies saying "this")

  •  stores over here are asking for huge orders, bigger than brawl...

  • this game is without a doubt the best system seller this christmas...

  • I see this game beating Super Mario Galaxy (and that means Brawl too...)

And not only here: go to N4G.com, ps3fanboy.com, NeoGAF, Kotaku... 90% of Sony fanboys were saying that this game was going to be HUGE in sales... heck, some people even said tha this was going to be the game that will destroy both the Wii and Mario.

Am I losing my sight, or do none of your examples say that LBP will be fable first week?

People should wait until next week before making any long term assumptions of LBP sales based on current sales data. There were no sales in Japan/Others and only limited availability in the US.

LBP will probably only sell one copy in New Zealand. *ME*

I don't know about this games sales potential yet since I haven't recieved my copy but its kinda hard to explain to people so that may limit its word of mouth potential.

Seems obvious, since every other NZ'er will be either herding sheep or playing/watching rugby >_> :p

@ kirby: Your statement that the ones who really wanted, already have it, is a bit botched.
Who's to say that there aren't more than 164k people in the US wanting this game, and aside from people who are really fanatic about gaming, who else is going to know about this street-day break?

Most people that have seen the commercials talking about the "28th of October" release, will not go "surely 28 must mean it's available now", but will only head out to the stores on the 28th.

true it will sell probably lots more but it won't be a huge bumb in sales considering its status...

Instead of seeking to convince others, we can be open to changing our own minds, and seek out information that contradicts our own steadfast point of view. Maybe it’ll turn out that those who disagree with you actually have a solid grasp of the facts. There’s a slight possibility that, after all, you’re the one who’s wrong.

I doubt little big planet will sell more then 2,5 times of what it did now..
the people who wanted it got it...

If by "the people who wanted it got it" you mean the people who preordered it at Gamestop (which actually had limited supply) then still no...because only SOME of them got it because only a few Gamestops had it, and those that did had limited supply. Why don't we wait until EVERY RETAILER (major or small) HAS THE GAME AND OFFICIALLY RELEASES IT.

lol, alright it wasn't available at every store but if you wanted you easily could have gotten it

160.000 copies doesn't come from one chain of retailers

It could come from one if the preorders are big enough. And even if the preorders weren't that big, the only other copies sold were the few that were leaked and then recalled. All in all, the game had a staggered launch. Period. There's no way to make any conclusions until next week

I really don't see LBP going over 750k this year...

NA only, or worldwide? If NA only then I just about agree, 750-900K.

I don't think next weeks numbers will increase by much, if at all. It will probably do around 160K again.

A month or two ago I would have said 750k worldwide but 750k for NA sounds reasonable now.  It will break just over 1 million worldwide.
