Valve Changes PC Requirements for Left 4 Dead

Lower video card specs may have some breathing a sigh of relief.

By Stephany Nunneley, 10/23/2008

According to a post on Shacknews, Valve has recently issued a slightly different set of PC requirements for their upcoming zombie slaughter-fest Left 4 Dead. The list is almost exactly the same, but if you do not have a 256MB video card installed on your system, take note, because that hefty requirement has been lowered to 128MB.

  • OS: Windows XP, Vista, Vista64
  • CPU: 3.0 GHz P4, Dual Core 2.0 or AMD64X2 (or higher)
  • RAM: 1 GB for XP / 2GB for Vista
  • Disc drive: DVD-ROM Drive
  • Hard drive: At least 7.5 GB of free space
  • Video: Direct X 9 compatible video card -- Video card must be 128 MB or more and should be a DirectX 9-compatible with support for pixel shader 2.0 (ATI 9600 or high. Or, Nvidia 6600 or higher)
  • Sound: Direct X9.0c compatible sound card

In addition to the new requirements for the PC, Valve has also released some screens of the Xbox 360 user interface, one of which is posted above. Check out the rest in our screenshot gallery for the game. Left 4 Dead is expected to infect retailers and Steam on November 18.

Now that feels slightly more like a Source game. Still can't install it on a toaster, but better by a decent amount than the rest.

Leave it to Valve to lower requirements before a release hehe.

Anyway, it was never really too high of requirements anyway...if you can run most modern games on decent settings, you can run L4D on good settings.

Bet with disolitude: Left4Dead will have a higher Metacritic rating than Project Origin, 3 months after the second game's release.  (hasn't been 3 months but it looks like I won :-p )

Surprisingly kind, Valve are very good at what they do and have some hefty games without steep req's. Valve and Blizzard are the pioneers in this field, Crytek and other developers should learn from this...

hum,

give me demo that I could try it ;)))

Time to Work !

Sweet, all the better it will on my laptop at home.

Same, now I can have L4D on the go as well! Alos while the previous reqs did fit most games currently, the drop from 256 to 128 cards really just upped the amount of people who can play this. My 4 year old laptop can now play this yet again!

@Mummelmann

Crytek so desperately tries to be Valve that I almost feel pity for the epic failures that have been Crysis and Far Cry 2.

Too bad Far Cry 2 is just as mediocre as Crysis was...
