Forums - Nintendo - How to Bully on the Wii

With the official news that Rockstar is planning to bring Bully: Scholarship Edition to Wii and Xbox 360 this winter, we've done what we always do when we hear of a new Wii port - try and work out how they'll make imaginative use of the Wii-mote.

Here's five ways we'd like to see it utilized in Bully..
1. Aiming and firing the catapult
Not unlike the bow and arrow dynamic in Zelda: Twilight Princess, you aim with the Wii-mote and then pull back the nunchuk, before pressing the A button to release your projectile with a satisfying elastic twang. One nerd now has rotten egg on his face.
2. Hitting bullies with the baseball bat
This one's simple - swing the Wii-mote back (making sure not to swat the mantelpiece in the process) and let loose with a forward motion getting as much purchase on the recipient's ass as possible.
3. Riding the bike/go-kart
Another no-brainer this: in a sitting position hold the Wii-mote horizontally and use it as a steering wheel during the go-kart races. Can also double up as pushbike and motorcycle handlebars, and it would be a great touch if they mapped the bell to the A button.
4. Flushing bullies heads down the toilet
A fairly complex ambidextrous operation which involves using the Wii-mote as the hand holding the head in the bowl and the free hand to pull the flush repeatedly. We'd like to see this as a special move only available to Jimmy after practice.
5. Giving flowers to girls (or nerds)
Perhaps the most straightforward move of the lot (and the least bully-like) the move involves holding the Wii-mote behind your back and then at the killer moment whipping it out in front of you, presenting the girl with a bouquet. Extra marks should be awarded for timing and smoothness of motion.

Some of these are a bit out there, and I doubt they will be implemented that way. However, if Rockstar can do to Bully, what EA did to Godfather, I am sure this game will play very well.

Editing, One Sec.

1) impossible. No way for the Wii to tell the relative difference in positions between the Wiimote and Nunchuck (unfortunately)
2) like Wii Sports. I suppose one hand would work better though
3) could work. Don't know what would happen when you changed the angle of one and not the other. Seems like a more natural position than holding only the remote sideways (going from pic)
4) Guesture based probably similar to Godfather is possible. You wouldn't get great mapping due to being unable to tell position, but it would definitely be possible. Not great, though
5) ... sure

I think that gesture doesn't require relative positioning.

My Mario Kart Wii friend code: 2707-1866-0957

I don't see why relative positioning is imposible on the Wii. It may be with the current Remote/nunchuck combo but an attachment with an additional sensor should not have a problem determing relative position.

Determining relative position is impossible without input from the user.

But it is very possible with input from the user. The user just holds the nunchuk out front with the remote right behind it then presses and holds a button. Then you simply pull back (like a slingshot) and when you are ready to realease the shot you release the button.

The remote can tell the direction and speed it is moving, so if it is told when it is at "the start" point(ie pressing down on the button) they just keep track of where it moves relative from that position. With that position they can tell force imparted based on elasticity of the "slingshot band", and they can get angle of release from its release position(ie let up on the button) relative to start position.

They have everything they need: An origin, all movements from the origin, and the wii-mote "knows" which way is down (providing necessary reference for angle of fire).

Now the baseball bat and the steering are a bit trickier, this part would probably require them comparing the graphs of the nunchuk and remote and seeing that the r-values are very very close and determining based on that information combined with quick acceleration of both over the similar r-value intervals that the person was swinging.

For steering, it might be possible to determine the desired motion, but I personally feel it is far far easier to let people steer with the excite truck method on this one.

For dunking heads in the toilets the nunchuk seems irrelevant to me so I would think once you grab someone and position in front of the toilet that just turning the remote sideways as shown and a quick jerk motion down should dunk and a quick jerk motion up should pull them out etc..with the possibility of a jerk motion forward banging the guys head on the toilet tank perhaps? Just a thought ....

As for the flowers...i think it was a joke...i hope...

How else would you aim the thing?

Uh...you aim with the Wiimote's pointer. The pulling back of the nunchuck can be detected, it detects a certain amount of backward movement in the nunchuck...then you let go of C or Z or whatever, and voila! Just like a bow or slingshot!

Bet with disolitude: Left4Dead will have a higher Metacritic rating than Project Origin, 3 months after the second game's release.  (hasn't been 3 months but it looks like I won :-p )

I mean, you could just point the Wiimote and shoot, but the point is that pulling back the nunchuck makes it feel cooler.
