Forums - Nintendo - The good part of Sare-enix underestimating Wii?

Lol, they can hate the Wii as much as they want, but they'll still HAVE TO develop for it.

What I don't understand is why devs hate the machine so much. They are always complaining that its under powered and that gamers want bigger and better visuals. But the market has shown that big budget games aren't as popular anymore. And everyone is sick of playing the same types of games in the same genres and with the same gameplay. It seems to me that devs are frustrated with their own lack of creativity and hate it when Nintendo is putting out a challenge for new and unique gamplay styles.
Good thing the Jap devs haven't said that. 'Cept Kojima but he changed his mind about what he said.

Japanese developers tend to be more tactful and diplomatic than western ones. For example let's say Company A in Japan and Company B in the United States feel the exact same way about the Wii, let's see how they decide to word it.

Company A: "We're excited about the new potential a different control scheme and perspective on gaming brings but still have modest apprehensions about its future and seek to continue pooling most of our support into all three consoles."

Company B: "The Wii is two Gamecubes tied together with duct tape! How are developers suppossed to make next gen games on last gen technology?"

You see, Western developers have this bad habbit of, oh, how do you say it?... Burning Bridges. Yeah, that about sums it up right there. That's why 99.9% of your developer drama, is surprise, surprise, Western Developers.

Outspoken individuals like Hideo Kojima are somewhat of unique cases and not representative so much of a developers (like Konami) but rather the games he works on (like Metal Gear Solid). All Shigeru Miyamoto ever said was that he could have made Halo, and I'll be damned if he wasn't for the sake of argument, right, it wasn't even meant to be a jab at Bungie, but of course Bungie, rising to the challenge with the mentality of a bunch of surely frat boys drinking beers n their studio basement shot back a tactfully worded retort about plumbers, oh, you show them Bungie, high road much? The man's only considered the father of gaming, most would honestly just be honored to have him fart in their general direction much ales mention thier game but you and your Halo are obviously the real big dicks on the scene, pitty you're ending it, I'm sure your next project will be a hit too... Right?

I wouldn't mind a final fantasy VI remake.

I kinda wish Miyamoto WOULD make Halo, except the rooms could be different more often, and it could be a more innovative game, and more fun.

See Steven, what happens when you do a horrible title? People begin talking about Miyamoto and Halo!

See Ya George.

Square are known to be one of the biggest money-wh*res around developers.

Remember the change from N64 to PS of FFVII?

They will bring their big series to the Wii sooner or later... they are not the type of developers that look for the most powerful console :P

I'll probably get crucified for this, but I don't think there's a single Square-Enix game I've ever played that I really enjoyed. I just don't like any of their games.

Am I alone?

Fazz,

I followed the whole thing very closely at the time(magazines were the major source of info). FF3(american) was my favorite game at the time. I was under the impression that they were making FF7 for the ultra 64(Gamefan claims to have seen an early build behind not the famous Final Fantasy 64 video we all see). My understanding is that Square became very interested in CGI video at the time and reaching the limits of carts for real at the time and started looking into CD-ROMS whihc bought them to Sony. There were of course many accusations of Sony throwing money at Square, but I honestly believe that square went because of the expanded memory + the jump start in user base. While a 64 version of FF7 would of been nice I don't think it would of had the artistic backgrounds the PS1 did but have cleaner 3D visuals for the fights and overworld map but much more bland 3-D backgrounds.

@the people in this thread and other who say impossible: Sony doesn't own the rights to any Final Fantasy game. They may have a stake in Square or vice versa I don't know. But it is obviously not a controlling one. For example: Nintendo only owned a small portion of Monolith, then bought them out. Monolith still made games for Sony consoles. See it's simple. I hate morons.

@ckmlb: Yes, I like some ports, and would look forward to remakes or ports of the games I mentioned. I am looking forward to FFIV on DS, for instance.

@fuzzmosis: yes.

@Redspear and Fazz: Final Fantasy VII is why PS1 took off. N64 was is in the lead at first.

I would cite regulation, but I know you will simply ignore it.
