Forums - Nintendo - Why Wii Music is Hard.

http://multiplayerblog.mtv.com/2008/10/17/how-wii-music-works-as-a-game/

Stephen Totilo at MTV posts the best impressions of Wii Music I've read yet. Here are some money quotes:

"In making such a complex performance, I could appreciate why “Wii Music” starts off with such ridiculously basic songs. Even with a simple song, I was challenged to put together a six-Mii rendition that sounded both unique and good.

At least I nailed the unique part."

"It was surprising and interesting to be taught how to turn a non-rock song into a rock song. What was less fun, however, was my inability to match the expected pattern for bass guitar and therefore fail the lesson. I’m excited by the idea that the game could teach me to play Wii-style tunes in different musical styles like rock, reggae and jazz. I’m concerned that I may not have enough musical talent to complete the lessons."

"This isn’t the kind of game that I see myself playing to win. But I’m driven right now by an oddly distinct goal: to make what I play sound better, and to hope against hope that I have the musical skills to keep up. Otherwise, I may have to have to bail out."

If you don't understand Wii Music, you should check out the rest of Stephen's post to get a firmer grip on this game.

Nice read. Like I said in the other thread, if you put nothing into the game, you get nothing out.

People assume it's not deep because it's not telling them what to do. But look at it compared to actual musical instruments. If you give a toddler a keyboard, they'll pound on it making noise. If you give that same keyboard to a trained musician, they'll make beautiful music. Now compare Matt Casamassina's videos to JC Rodrigo's and you begin to see the similarities.

And damn, this is like the 20th Wii Music post I've made today. I'm sick of Wii Music.

My Wii Music intrerest level keeps bouncing up and down.... If my local Blockbuster rented games I would probably rent it, but for some reason they only sell games.

I'll at least rent Wii Music.

Yeah, I've been on the fence as to whether I would get Wii Music for a while. But I think I have to get it now. Where as rhythm games just challenge your reflexes, this one challenges your creativity, which is a completely different kind of stimulation.

Despite what some people say about this game, the goal is to make good music, and that is far from being a simple task.

I won't get this game but it's only because I can already make much better sounding music with what I have at home ;)

This game really seems more like a music game than all other rythm games out there.

How many cups of darkness have I drank over the years? Even I don't know...

^ Agreed, seems like it's a whole new breed of rythm game than what's out there.
