Yup, I agree with what some of you are saying. A lot of people are celebrating a short term victory of weekly sales, which even by the great price cut given are not justified to be high enough. It must be worrying MS since they were looking at killing of the PS2, putting the ps3 possibly into a coma and taking a slice out of the Wii market. If anyone was to look back at the sales since the price cut, they haven't achieved any of the 3.

Now they have a new PS2, a PS3 still performing pretty solid without any price drops and or new IP's and a Wii which is kicking ass not having done anything great recently.

Next year, when the Wii comes out with new IP's and maybe even a price drop and the same goes for the PS3, 360 will be in deep shit. I wouldn't be surprised if given the current situation, the PS3 offers a decent price cut along with KZ2 bundles and by the end of next year brings out a slim PS3 for the release of GOW3 or the Team Ico project.

What's up with people talking about how desperate Microsoft is for this pricecut? Have people forgotten how much more money Sony lost selling the PS3 earlier in its lifetime? I'll give you a hint: compare the PS3 losses with the 360's. Even if you include the RRoD losses & PS2/PSP profits, Sony's losses blows right past Microsoft's. If you call Microsoft desperate, what does that make Sony?

Sony just dug themselves in such a big hole, that they don't even have room for a pricecut (they would if they could). It's entirely Sony's fault for deciding to cram in unaffordable technology into the PS3. Microsoft has $1bil losses to go before they catch up with Sony - that means they "deserve" $1bil more 360's worth of sales. That would extend their lead quite a bit.

Don't mind me though, keep creating imaginary rules for the competition so the PS3 continues to "win" in your opinion.

The main constituent of the current Wii userbase is past PS2 owners, this is pretty obvious given the sales of this gen compared to last if you ignore the Wii.

It's just guesswork, but I doubt I am more than 5% wrong either way, and almost certain I am not more than 10% wrong either way, but this would be my estimate of the current Wii userbase:

(bare in mind these user groups will overlap somewhat)
~20% - Nintendo Fans who would have likely bought one anyway. (may have had other consoles)
~15% - last gen GC only owners
~60% - last gen PS2 owners (may have had other consoles)
~50% - last gen PS2 only owners
~2.5% - last gen XB only owners

~7.5% - gamers who didn't have a 6th gen home console, but may have skipped the gen, been PC gamers or handheld gamers.

~15% - new gamers (this bracket will include young gamers who might have come into gaming anyway [5%] and the rest [10%] being what is generally percieved by some as the "blue ocean"  -  likely most will be girls who wouldn't have gamed if it wasn't for Wii or DS, plus some older people and "soccer moms")

Thus the Wii is made up of 50% PS2 only owners, 15% GC only, 2.5% XB only and 10% multi owners (from last gen) 7.5% other gamers and 15% new gamers.

As you can see from the PS2 difference (60-50 = 10%), and the multi owners.... the vast majority of multi owners will have had a PS2, with only a tiny part bein GC + XB without PS2.

your missing the point! the fact is the cheapest you can get an xbox 360 CONSOLE is $199. its supposed to be a main stream price and its supposed to attract the mainstream audience. why would the mainstream care about a HDD. would they even know what it is. all they will care about is you get the console with a controller. thats all. lol, you say ps3 supporters yet all i said was a fact. is it not true that the 360 is half the price of ps3?

wasnt the ps3 outselling the 360 by atleast 20k a week since the start of the year? until the price cut that is. i dont think microsoft are really happy but the real test is this holiday.

BTW Sony had their price cut last year to increase sales as well...

 So Darth, you expected the X360 to catch up for Q3? Did you expect it to come close? I doubt it. The 360 has done better than anyone ought to have expected in this quarter.

That's my point. I was never saying his view was wrong, just that it gave a slightly flawed look. He made a good point, but I wanted to look at it from another eye, and that made it look slightly different.

I brought up his sig to prove that no one expected the X360 to do this. The very fact that he put it in his signature, meant that it was a far fetched prediction, as you wouldn't otherwise.

The Wii is definitely back on track now. I guess the economic crisis hasn't scared people away.

Yes obviously it was done to get sales. The market was very saturated. I mean it was in the $350-$400 range for a monstrous 2 years and 9 month and its still only been down by $100 averaging around $33 per year. However the PS3 averages around $100 per year.

How do you know that there are no big exclusives comming out for it.....DO you know something the rest of us dont?
