That's a pretty slim outline you gave us, let's elaborate. |
Yes. I guess that the shooting was a design choice. Having to lead an object so far away while having to be quick and precise was a horrible idea. It was not nearly as much of a problem in MP3 IMO.
The grab tool does not work well on the timed levels. I'm thinking of the ones where you have to move the blocks in order to get the Gorildas to make it to the end of the stage. In the expert levels there is no room for error.
I feel the same way about the throwing controls. You seem to throw a fastball or lob it. There is no in between.
I found it boring because you would have to do the same task several times. If it was one of the dreaded shooting sequences, you'd have to do it six times in a row. The same for the Gorilda stages and all of the others.
This is my opinion of course. I never said otherwise. I just don't think it's a well made game and I don't like it.

I think a majority of people like the genre for what it is and not the game for what it is.
There is nothing else like it is so either you like Boom Blox or you wait until "Tetris Blox" with M+ come out =P
I haven't touched the single player but this is a very fun multiplayer game. For that alone it's easily worth $20-$30. Most of the multiplayer modes are great fun and inparticular the 2-4 player castle and tiki tower topple modes make for some intense matches. I can only imagine the single player isn't that good but I'm just assuming and I doubt it really matters. Buying a game like this for single player would be like buying Unreal Tournament for the campaign.

The people I've seen pan this game never seem to compain about the multiplayer for some reason.
For me, the biggest failing of this game is that it didn't push multiplayer content enough. More multiplayer levels and an online mode would have made this game godly.

amp316 said: Did I mention that the controls are imprecise? Many of the levels are timed and need accurate controls for you to complete them. This is difficult when you can grab the correct piece only about one third of the time. The shooting is also off. Not the pointing ; but the actual shooting has a delay. Sounds like fun. Doesn't it? |
I really love this game. I have it since April and still play multiplayer with some friends. If you don't like it, well, that's your opinion. But if you say that the controls are imprecise, then you're doing something terribly wrong. I can agree with you that the shooting sucks because of the delay. I dislike the shooting parts of the single player game. But the rest is flawless. Me and all my friends grab the correct piece 100% of the time (might be 97% of the time when drunk and 74% when really drunk, but still as high as we can to our sobriety).
I think you might be just holding the wii remote around with one arm. This is a precision game and you can't do that. I usually hold it with both hands in the grabing parts and lay my elbows on my knees so I can get maximum precision. Also, moving blocks to the side are easier than pulling and pushing because you don't have to raise your elbows.
Again, you're doing something really wrong if you think the controls for this game are bad.
EDIT: ohhh, and I did the timed expert grab levels also. This is not just for the ones without the clock ticking for you.

QFT. I completely agree. What I mostly wanted, though, was an online storage for user created content. I didn't even need the online play as I usually play locally.
I rented the game. The first 8 hours were fun. But both me and my son ended up with sore shoulders. By the time I got into expert mode, I was totally losing interest and didn't complete it. The multiplayer mode was fun, and my girls weren't happy that I had to return it. Worthwhile game at the right price. $50? No. $20, maybe. $10 as a WiiWare game? Sure!
amp316: I don't see how Boom Blox could be considered a stellar 3rd party game. And I don't know who is saying that it is. Sure, there are people who like it, but stellar it is not.
What it is, however, is evidence that 3rd parties are beginning to support the Wii. Whether or not you liked Boom Blox is not important. Obviously some people do. It was Stephen Spielberg's first foray into the gaming environment, and he chose the Wii. EA revamped their sports titles for Wii specific features. High Voltage systems is investing tons of time into "The Conduit" -- a developer spending tons of time on a Wii game? Unheard of! Even developers that have never written a game for a Nintendo system are looking at developing for the Wii. Just because no 3rd party developer has written a game that appeals to YOU doesn't mean there isn't lots of 3rd party support and good games to play, now or in the future.
Personally, I look at muramasa: the demon blade and I think it looks gorgeous from an artistic standpoint. My son absolutely loves the lego games and a few others. Sure, "trash games" to some, treasure games to us. But if you base your entire opinion of 3rd party developers for the Wii on one game, Boom Blox at that, then you're really shortchanging yourself.
I absolutely loved Boom Blox and everything about it. The only gripe I have is no online play. I'm at like 82% total completion so I have gone through the majority of everything in this game to justify this opinion. Overall it's the best game i've played on the Wii I think, outside of maybe Guilty Gear Accent Core.
Well I trust Mr.bond he seems to have good taste in games and women (except that one that was actually a man). Boom Blox looks like it might be a fun game to play drunk or high though. Other then that probably rent it first .
