If we go to 1998, starting from there, there has never been more than 2 years without a main game being released.
So if the pattern continues 2009 should be the year where we see a new game in the series.

2008 was a year without any Zelda game released. 2009 cannot become the second straight year without at least a secondary game, VC game, DSiWare, WiiWare, compilation, port. Not since 1987 has that happened.

So if this is any indication and by judging from every past Zelda game, the most probable scenario is that we will see the new game in the series, for the Wii, on November 2009.

DS Zelda announced at GDC 09. Don't know if it's a main Zelda or if it's a spin-off ala Four swords adventure or Link's CB Training. We will find out soon enough.

Zelda Wii Holiday title 2010 almost confirmed.

Update, looks like 2010 Holidays is the date.

Bets with Conegamer:

Pandora's Tower will have an opening week of less than 37k in Japan. (Won!)
Pandora's Tower will sell less than 100k lifetime in Japan.
Stakes: 1 week of avatar control for each one.

Don't try to find a pattern. Nintendo will shatter it all over the place.

Also, I don't really consider the "Oracle" games as main-series because they weren't developed in-house.

Yeah should be available by xmas next year. Nintendo has already announced they are working on one but it may be for the dsi. But I think it will be for the Wii and use the wiimote to its full potential.

I predict 4th quarter of next year.

I'm hoping very much for the 2009 holiday season, but I wouldn't be surprised if we didn't get it until 2010.

@Khuutra: There's clearly a pattern or a trend. Do you honestly believe they will not release a new Zelda next year? They will and it will be around Q4.

On the other hand what's more strange is that they are on track not to release any game this year. But as I have said MM or the older GB games could be appearing this year.

IF next year doesn't see the release of any new game, what I expect is a DSi version of OoT, similar to what they did to SM64 on the DS. But in reality what's more probable is simply a new game.

I'm just saying, don't put money on it. They may let you down. They may make you hurt.

@Khuutra: I know what you mean. I'm still intrigued as of what games will Nintendo release in the USA for the Wii in 2009. Punch Out, Wii Sports: Resort, S&P2, Endless Ocean 2 and ???
FF4, Disaster are possibilities. Mario Party 9? New Zelda? Maybe one of the recently announced Nintendo published games for Japan. I honestly don't know, but Zelda is one of the most probable games.

Christmas 2010

I would love a Top-Down view 3d Zelda for Wiiware that uses motion controls, and incorporates 2d Zelda gameplay. That would be so awesome. Especially if it used a screen system too like the 2d Zelda's. I might even want that more than a full blown traditional 3d Zelda game. Actually I want both of them. Make it happen Nintendo. While you are at it give me my 2.5d or,maybe even 2d with an art style similar to Muramasa, Metroid for Wiiware. God the things they could make for Wiiware. I would just die if both these games were announced. Then I would come back to life so I could play them. I think they should cancel wii music and give us both of these instead. ;)
