Let us know when they actually do it.. 30% of what it is capable of means nothing

Personally I wouldn't trust these percentages they talk about. How exactly are they measuring it? I very much doubt the PS3 sdk has a little meter saying "You are currently using x% of the ps3's power..."

It also sounds a little...I dunno, sketchy I guess, that people keep talking about games ONLY using this much power....especially since there's no way to know how fast they'll learn to use the extra power and how far they'll actually ever get. Doesn't matter how much power hardware has if its so hard to program for that they only ever reach 60-70%.

Having said that, if they are accurate and the games coming out are only using such a small portion of the SPU's abilities, I can't wait to see what comes out in 4-5 years. I bet they'll look freaking amazing. I still might not get a PS3, but that doesn't mean I can't drool over sweet graphics =)

but  alot of things are not possible in games without sweet graphics.. so you mean to tell me you wouldnt want to push for a more graphically capable game??

the better the graphics the more you can do in the game the better the game..

If you're curious to see what the games may look like I suggest you look at PC games that were released in 2007 ... No matter how fancy the PS3's cell processor is it is still bound by the exact same laws of physics that your Intel/AMD cpu is

PPPFFFFFFFsssssssh yea righ... you mean to tell me i should buy games off the graphics alone.. ??? yea right.....there are plenty of crap games out there with nice graphics but the games are garbage... Graphics is a nice feature but it doesnt make or break the game for me... it would be nice to have a game at 1080p 60fps and blows everygame out the water but if the game play is crappy or if it has framerate issues its a waste of time...

sucker punch is a nice developement studio im not knocking them but make sure the game is right before toutin all these percentages.. im not doubting the power of the ps3 but percentages get used too often... This game should be kickass though because its made by sucker punch

I agree.  Graphics only enhance gameplay.  I can't see any way graphics would actually add capabilities to a game.  IF you have some examples, I'd love to hear them.

However, I like cool graphics jsut as much as the next geek...I'm just not willing to pay 600$ to get them =).  Well I guess thats not entirely true.  I spent about twice that for me computer, but the computer does so much more than just give me pretty graphics (I'm not bashing the ps3 here guys, chill).

When a devs runs code on pc,360,ps3, they measure how much bandwidth they have left, how fast certain code is running, how effiecent shaders are.

This is common knowledge.

Cell performance is measured all the time, and its pretty easy to do.

its done with all consoles not just the ps3.. most developers are just amazed at much power they have left over to use... thats why you hear about it all the time for ps3 games... unlike the wii and 360..
