Forums - Sony - I don't see MUCH momentum in PS3 sales even after the price cut

"Until we see the results of that claim, it means nothing. Until then, all we know is EA Playground and other mini-game types. PS3 gets new third party announcements all the time"

Bodhesatva has just started another thread providing a link to a site which states that the Wii is getting 37 more exclusives to the system while the PS3 will get 3. you can like the PS3 all you want but to defend it to the point where you disregard facts is just fanboyism

Just in case the historical evidence wasn't enough, and just in case the slew of top-flight publishers all explicitly saying that they were moving towards the Wii wasn't enough, here you go:

http://www.gamingtarget.com/article.php?artid=7252

This month's exclusive arm's race.

PS3: 3 new exclusive titles announced!
360: 5 new exclusive titles announced!
Wii: 37 new exclusive titles announced!

The Wii now has almost 2.5 times as many confrimed exclusives as the PS3 has, and clearly that number is growing very rapidly. The 360 has 96 exclusive titles, almost exactly twice as many as the PS3.

That is quite a list of B-titles the Wii has there...I can't wait. I hope they surprise me when I have my Wii waiting for Nintendo's next games.

However, I still contend the PS3 (and 360) will have plenty enough that the Wii does not have. If you include games that the PS3 and 360 get that the Wii doesn't, the list is far more impressive for the PS360. Then, you look at Sony's lineup and you have to feel good about the PS3.

What you have there is a skewed list. Compare those Wii exlcusives with PS360 "exclusives."

Those 360 titles? Scene It (an over-priced DVD game), DDR 43 (give or take), Katamari (ok, ouch, but at least creator of that series is doing a PS3 exclusive), Viva min-games, and F.E.A.R. files (huh?). At least PS3 added Heavy Rain and Time Crisis 4 which I am looking forward to just because of the Guncon 3 (2 sensors).

Edit:  Not to get off-topic, but if the PS2 added waggle those 37 exlcusives probably drop to just a few.  Still, compare games that are on 360 and PS3 and not the Wii to those 37.

and those games that appear on the PS3 and the 360, hmm, I wonder how many will buy it on the 360 version rather than the PS3? First you say the PS3 gets great game announcements for it all the time and then you back track and take the PS360 position. Microsoft is not allying with Sony to fight Nintendo. The fact that the games will appear on the 360 will hurt PS3 sales, not help. And as for the B games, I actually spot out some games people will pick over games on the 360 (considering its getting 3+ confirm exclusives, i going on his information so I don't know) and when people look at the massive B games selection for the Wii compare to the games on the PS3, you think they'll pick the PS3 over the Wii? I believe the shere amount on B games on the PS took down the N64's heavy hitters.

ioi's preliminary numbers for NA this week point to PS3 numbers slipping from the initial burst of 45k. We'll find out tomorrow, hopefully.

Edit: Post 1300! x_X

(referring to totalwar23's comment)

...besides, what may be a "B" title for you doesn't mean everyone will perceive it to be a "B" title.

To paraphrase: "Don't judge a game by its cover".

There have been "AAA" titles that I didn't really enjoy (Devil May Cry) and "B" titles that I've loved (Mister Mosquito). You may think it strange, but everytime I go to a store to buy games I'm not always looking for those "AAA" FPSs or platformers - it's those quirky, irreverent games that I'm much more attracted to. Many of them are puzzle-type games (Meteos) that can be played regardless of console.

For me, there are a plethora of "B" titles that I play more than "AAA" titles - that makes the "B" titles "AAA" titles in my book.

I don't think my gaming habits are unusual - and I think there are many people that share my habits. When they go to the store, they are not looking at anything more than the funky art of the game boxes. In that regard, the Wii has both consoles beat hands-down (but still trails PC games in the casual department).

It's funny that all you guys saying the PS3 is bound to be a failure on the level of GC, XBOX, or N64 also have been saying the same thing about the PSP for the last year since the DS Lite came out, yet the NPD numbers for this month still show that the PSP isn't even close to fading away. In fact it's gaining momentum in the market and the redesign hasn't even come out yet. A lot of you were even saying the PSP price cut failed to help the system gain momentum in the market. Well you were certainly wrong back then. My point: There's still a long way to go for the PS3 before we can really start comparing it to the GC or XBOX. The PS3 lineup only gets significantly better from here on out, which means value continues to increase. (The Heavenly Sword demo comes out this Thursday; I'll let you all know if it lives up to the hype). Anyway, this year isn't all that important for the PS3. Sony had to know they were gonna have a real tough fall with Halo 3 on the horizon. Really, the important ventures are the PSP and PS2, otherwise known as the systems that were actually designed to produce a profit this year. As long as they do well, Sony can minimize the losses in the videogame division for this year and make a serious push with the PS3 in the post-Halo3 world of next year.

My Top 5:

Shadow of the Colossus, Metal Gear Solid 3, Shenmue, Skies of Arcadia, Chrono Trigger

My 2 nex-gen systems: PS3 and Wii

Prediction Aug '08: We see the PSP2 released fall '09. Graphically, it's basically the same as the current system. UMD drive ditched and replaced by 4-8gb on board flash memory. Other upgrades: 2nd analog nub, touchscreen, blutooth, motion sensor. Design: Flip-style or slider. Size: Think Iphone. Cost: $199. Will be profitable on day 1.

ps3 version 1.90 is now out. Atleast here in east U.S. In game xmb !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!.....

j/k hahaha

I would not go nearly so far as to say the PS3 would be "doomed" to a GC sales trend.  There is reason to suspect that in the future the PS3 will have solid sales numbers, and could possibly finish its life in the run for the number 2 spot (I really don't see it beating the Wii at the moment, I could be wrong but I am willing to make that wager).  With that said there is reason..right now.. to suspect the PS3 could fall into a GC/Xbox sales trend...

Exhibit A

See how the PS3 line seems to be making a braid with the GC and XBox line?

Jokes aside, nothing is set in stone, but I think its a little foolish to assume its not possible and I hope Sony is reacting to their situation with urgency.  Regardless of what you think of the PS3's current or future prospects I think everyone can agree its not where Sony expected or wanted it to be.

You forgot to note that the data for Others is missing for the GC and Xbox.
