I don't know, but the definition of "hardcore" changes constatly so it's difficult to guess the real reason (even Madden is now consider "hardcore" )

You know Rol, even if you are being intentionally satirical, that's almost silly enough to make sense (but I kinda doubt it is true). The reasoning is the same as the reasoning behind why the NES was "horrible" to PC gamers: it represents a departure from the norm, and it draws in new customers to the industry that aren't anything like the dedicated userbase of the industry as it stood before it came along.

Change, plain and simple, is what they're afraid of. You'll find change is at the root of most human fears, actually...
