David Fincher, Darren Aronofsky, Christopher Nolan.

Oh wow, I didn't realize that Fincher had done so many movies I liked, and The Curious Case of Benjamin Button looks AWESOME.

I still need to see Pi...but Requiem For a Dream was awesome.

Did you watch the Fountain?

No, I didn't.  I think the reason I was never motivated to was because of Hugh Jackman.  Now that I know who directed it I will try harder to see it.

I've heard a lot more about Pi than I have about The Fountain, and from what I have heard it is the kind of movie I would like.  Anyone who did a movie like Requiem For a Dream definitely has talent, so I am sure his other films are pretty good.

You have a problem with Hugh Jackman?  Have you seen The Prestige?

Yeah...I did, and he is good in that (I love The Prestige).  Its not that I dislike Hugh Jackman, I just might be a little bit less motivated to see a movie if he is in it.  I guess it is more accurate to say that I am neutral towards Hugh Jackman, so I skipped out on The Fountain because there was nothing else that I knew of at that time to draw me towards it.

We had two bags of grass, seventy-five pellets of mescaline, five sheets of high-powered blotter acid, a salt shaker half full of cocaine, a whole galaxy of multi-colored uppers, downers, screamers, laughers…Also a quart of tequila, a quart of rum, a case of beer, a pint of raw ether and two dozen amyls.  The only thing that really worried me was the ether.  There is nothing in the world more helpless and irresponsible and depraved than a man in the depths of an ether binge. –Raoul Duke

It is hard to shed anything but crocodile tears over White House speechwriter Patrick Buchanan's tragic analysis of the Nixon debacle. "It's like Sisyphus," he said. "We rolled the rock all the way up the mountain...and it rolled right back down on us...."  Neither Sisyphus nor the commander of the Light Brigade nor Pat Buchanan had the time or any real inclination to question what they were doing...a martyr, to the bitter end, to a "flawed" cause and a narrow, atavistic concept of conservative politics that has done more damage to itself and the country in less than six years than its liberal enemies could have done in two or three decades. -Hunter S. Thompson

Well consider this a very high recommendation.  Put it in your queue, download it, rent it, steal it...just watch it.  Then pm your response.  You can yell at me all you want if you hate it.

Pirating it as we speak.  I should be able to watch it by the end of the weekend.

I thought the Fountain was a huge dissappointment. It needed so much editing towards the end I thought of playing it in fast forward just so it ran at a regular pace. Pi is good though. It's hard working backwards from Requiem and seeing Pi, but if you don't keep your expectations too high it's a cool little story.

My top 3 would be
1) Satyajit Ray: The greatest film-maker to come out of India, and second in prestige to Kurosawa alone when Asia is concerned, he remains the best Director in terms of portrayal of human emotions in a realistic manner. The Apu trilogy remains some of the finest cinema this world has seen, in my opinion

2)Krzysztof Kieslowski: he has a pretty extensive body of work but the most important are The decalogue and Colors trilogy. Now the Decalogue is my personal favorite piece of film-making( it should be used by acting schools as reference material).

3)Stanley Kubrick: best western Film maker, has a body of work whose diversity is a thing to behold, ranging from sci-fi to court drama to cheesy horror, all the while keeping a legendary standard(except for Shining which was truly just Jack Nicholson all the way)

Great you appreciate Polish director, he deserves universal acclaim, shame he is not known to a wider audience.

My favourites are:

Scorsese
Kubrick
Coen Brothers

@Lolcislaw
I was wondering, are the actors used in The Decalogue famous locally(i.e Poland)?
Cause the performances they give are simply extraordinary

He did put some big stars like:
Jerzy Stuhr, Daniel Olbrychski (who are considered icons of Polish cinema)

Few future stars (not as big):
Lubaszenko (more of a director nowdays), Zamachowski

And people like: Miroslaw Baka, Artur Barcis are only considered TV actors today.

Other actors are also quite famous in Poland (Gajos for example, for his earlier and much later work).
