Forums - Microsoft - Bioshock Screens: X360 vs PS3

Seriously, 2K really think I'm going to pay more for a inferior game when I get the better version alot cheaper...

PS3

360

As you can see, the lighting for the PS3 version is indeed better but the textures are far more superior on the X360

If you're thinking of picking up a copy of Bioshock or missed it when it came out, buy the X360 version since its cheaper and has the same story and gameplay as the PS3 version.

If a person has both a PS3 and 360, why didn't they pick it up a year ago? Or if they only recently got a 360, why not buy it now? Even if the PS3 version had better graphics, the 360 version is just way cheaper.

I don't know , maybe the ps3 in that pic didn't have enabled the RGB FULL RANGE and the super white settings, I think in textures they must be very similar.

F.U. Fun University.

See a side by side video comparison. They both look graphically identical, and also the 360 has the better lighting IMO (PS3's kinda dark).

I actually took the time to compare the two versions today. (The 360 version which I own, and the PS3 demo version.) They both look pretty close, with the PS3 version edging out with some better lighting/colour.

Oddly enough I was actually examining that particular Big Daddy's head in-game from the screenshot you posted, only a few hours ago. For some reason it's really badly pixelated on the PS3 version. Almost like the developers 2K missed a spot or something. You also have to go up very close to notice it. A few feet back and it looks the same.

That Big Daddy's head does seem to be somewhat of an exception, in that having combed through the entire demo length of both the PS3 version and the 360 version one after the other looking for flaws and glitches, it was pretty much the only thing that looked noticeably different on the two versions, and most certainly would not have effected any gamers experience.

I'm slightly confused as to why you think any 360 owner would have waited until the PS3 port arrived to make a decision. However based on the fact that all the DLC ships on the disc and that some bonus content is being added to the PS3 version, coupled with the better colour/lighting, the PS3 version, in my opinion, is the superior version.

Edit: Although you do have a point about the cost.

Wow and they had an install

Add to that Uncharted has no install, massively better visuals than bioshock, and we still get this with an install?

Not everyone can be the godly developers that Naughty Dog are. It's not that PS3 BioShock dev's are bad, it's just that the Naughty Dog dev's are insanely good.

I expected more screenshots for a fairer comparison, entered the thread ... and ... one screen per console. Awesomeness.

But yes, the sony first party devs such as naughty dog and second party such as insomniac are just some of the best devs around. They pwn. The proof is in the pudding and i expect uncharted 2 to just walk over all these games in terms of bot graphics and gameplay.

I have both systems, but I'll be getting Bioshock for the PS3.  I personally prefer to get the PS3 version for multiplat games, mainly because I have a 1st generation 360 with no HDMI and it runs really loud and really hot, which I fear may RROD at any moment.  So for me, cost is not a factor.  It's just about personal preference.

As much as I wanted a better version on PS3, and might have bought this game had it had the better version - It looks noticeably better on 360. It's hard to warrant $20 more bucks for a harder difficulty, and some other little thing i forget.

I have both demos, (I know the main game could be different, but that doesn't seem very likely - we'll have to wait and see for a final verdict) and saw the same thing; the 360 has a lot crisper textures and the frame rate is a bit smoother, particularly when you look up. The 360 has a much more 'glossy' look to it where the PS3 is more of a 'blurry' look. Yes I had Full RGB, and 'extended' selected for both consoles - Both via HDMI on a 1080p LCD. I'm a PS3 fan and I didn't notice 'colors' being better on PS3.

I also noticed the PS3 version upscaled to 1080p, I unchecked it to compare at 720p and there wasn't a lot of difference, Turning up the Sharpness narrowed the gap, but was still short - 720p setting looks better on my tv mostly because i can adjust the sharpness better than I can in 1080p. What can you expect from an UE3 game though? I also can't help but wonder if it was somewhere in the 'timed exclusive' contract with MS, that the game couldn't look better on PS3?

Really has me wondering about IGN's comments a couple months ago:

"Although it was still an early build of the game, the title looks fantastic. The water effects look much slicker, as do many of the environments as they are slowly submerged in water. It's quite obvious that 2K is taking full advantage of the PS3's Blu-ray discs to pack in cleaner high resolution textures for every facet of the game"
-Which clearly doesn't appear to be the case on the Demo - I compared the water effects, they're about the same(more 'glossy' on 360). Why would he lie? Were the 'higher res' textures removed, or simply not in the demo??
