Karate kid on the NES. It's a terrible game with very poor controlls and a ridiculus difficulty level...but i couldn't stop playing it...i think it was because i was so angry at the game and wanted to beat it SO badly and get revenge for all the times it had killed me...and it nearly drove me to the point of insanity!

Oblivion, Any Mario Kart or Smash Bros,

Pokemon on Gameboy, AOE II or maybe Simcity 4. I've played countless hours on all of them.

One person's experience or opinion never shows the general consensus

Mario Kart on the SNES... I played that game non stop for almost a year... never did that with any other game I ever owned... only game to maybe come close is Street Fighter 2. I'd literally get up in the morning before school (HS) and play a few races... then when I got home from school... I'd play it all night long...

Prepare for termination! It is the only logical thing to do, for I am only loyal to Megatron.

Civ 2 and Red Alert.

Back from the dead, I'm afraid.

Civilization of course, which is the reason why I had to force myself to stop playing it. I do forgett time when I play that game.

Buy it and pray to the gods of Sigs: Naznatips!

Tetris. Screw your long quests and tremendous amount of replay value, I can sit and play that game for hours without even realizing it.

What you are experiencing is replay value. One of the requirements for being an addictive game.

When someone says replay value, they generally mean multiple endings, many quests, multiple characters, customizable characters, ect, not simple addictive puzzle games.

I would have to disagree. Replay value is anything that gets you to play it again. The simplest games can have replay value. Minesweeper has replay value but doesn't have anything from your list of criteria.

I'll say it even more clearly this time: when replay value used as a buzz word it generally means those thingsI listed above.

Replay value is entertainment value. Pure and simple. And it's different for everyone. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Replay_value

So it's different for everyone and you're trying to argue with me about what it is?

warcraft 3 for sure...

I've played Starcraft for a few years, then Diablo 2 for a few years, then WoW for a few years. I'm finally on the wagon again and just playing my console games.

Amplitude/Guitar Hero
Contra
Gears of War
Smash TV

Those are my picks!
