like i said best looking game to come to any console by a mile

Yea, I agree, and IGN gave Gears 2 the best grpahics award pshh..

Hmmm, I think no one can give a proper opinion about it if they don't know anything about graphics in the first place. I'm not saying the IGN guys (or myself, or even you) know more about computer graphics and all the mapping stuff, but all I'll say is this:

If Gears 2 can look beautiful AND run at a constant 60 FPS (or so I've heard, compared to Gears 1 on 360 that ran at 30 FPS), then what are we blaming them for giving the game this ''title?''

I'm sure if Killzone 2 is able to pull that off though, some of us will be proven wrong! o_o

Gears 2 runs at 30fps not 60fps.

Beat me to it.

Now Ratchet & Clank, that's an amazing game at 60fps, and why it runs at 60fps while Resistance 2 is only 30fps is a mystery to me.

God of War III should run at 60fps as well, just like the previous three, and I can't wait to see some gameplay footage. :D

God of War I and II ran at barely 30 fps and had pretty horrible tearing on PS2.

DMC games and NG games run at 60 fps with no tearing.

Jawdroping. Pure and simple. I cannot believe how well GG have delivered on the visuals, there will be a global shutdown of haters when this hits the market. And this is still beta!

best graphics ever for a console.

Incredible, can't wait for the real thing!

God of War I/II both run at 60fps, though they do have some tearing.  They also both support 480p.

And if you need proof:

Not gritty enough for me.

Yep it needs to be more gritty with evne less color for my liking.

lol, People will always complain NO MATTER WHAT

Haha that was actually a compliment meaning its gotten less gritty and more colorful since last time we saw it which is good.  But of course people get more thick headed no matter what.

It's good to see major improvements upon what was already a great looking game. If the AI shapes up well Killzone 2 could actually live up to the hype.

Oh! Nice mud effect! I wonder if it sticks on armors though? THAT would be an amazing step in computer graphics (not already-generated textures that change to ''muddy'' pants after a while, I'm talking about interactive mud or something of the sort that stick in different places everytime)! =P

I'm pretty sure Motorstorm had exactly what you are describing, so I don't think it is unrealistic that this will have it as well :)

Hmmm, indeed. But Evolution Studios isn't Guerilla Games. :/

True, but both of them are Sony 1st party developers, so thinking Guerilla got a hand with it from Evolution's tech isn't unrealistic.

Sometimes, I don't know if they really share ''engines'' between first-party developers. There must be some contract or something that tells them they have to (if necessary) though, but I wouldn't know.

I mean, Insomniac Games should have taken Guerilla's engine then from the beginning (not saying theirs is bad though)! o_O

Insomniac are constantly upgrading and adding to their own engine. It's basically a constant work in progress.

They've added detailed water effects/physics to the engine and a greater draw distance in the jump from Ratchet to Resistance 2 for example. The jump will probably be just as impressive for their next game. I guess they're probably most comfortable working with their own tools and code.

I wonder what the next Ratchet game, running on the Killzone 2 engine, would look like...

Is it just me or does the game look better than ever before? It looks almost suspiciously good while before it has looked only awesome.

The game has looked like this since E3, if not since May.

This issue is that the textures are often hard to see clearly in stills, either due to the game's built-in motion blur or else a result of it's bad anisotropic filtering (essentially the textures look blurry at angles, though this would only be an issue with in-engine shots taken out-of-body, and thus not already blurred by the motion blur).

In every shot that has shown textures at a more direct angle, they've looked pretty good, and bad anisotrpic filtering is only an issue if you're forced to look at things at odd angles consistently.  In motion, it should go completely unnoticed.

For example of these good textures I'm talking about, look at the ground textures at the very bottom of this shot:

http://ps3media.ign.com/ps3/image/article/890/890010/killzone-2-20080715040131304.jpg

There is not motion blur, as it the shot is not taken from the player's perspective, and you have a good angle on the textures by his feet, so they're not really affected by bad anisotropic filtering.

Now notice the ground textures in the distance.  They're pretty blurry, right?  They're also being viewed from very low angles, and look fuzzy in general.  They're being affected by the bad AS.
