Forums - Sales - Fable 2 vs LBP

Banjo Kazooie 3 would be a more apt comparison.

Fable 2 will easily beat LBP. I really don't see LBP doing more than 500k first week, if it's lucky. Whereas Fable 2 will have a much larger opening.

Or does anyone not remember the pre-order numbers I posted a few weeks ago that had pre-orders for Fable outnumbering LBP 10:1?

LBP will sell a bomb load more than Fable 2.

Another question for PS3 fanboys:

Who do you think will be the userbase that LBP will apeal to? The Casuals? Well they'll see the wii for $250 and say F*** it and lets just get the Wii. The people that own the PS3 but dont go on forums? Well 90% of them don't even know about LBP. The people that go on forums? They hardly make up the Ps3 userbase.

thats typical fanboy talk, what u meant to say was i dont understand the game, ive never tried it nor will i ever want to. instead of making bad points of the opposing game on the opposing console why dont you state the great things about fable 2, seriously ur post and many like urs puts me and im sure many others off buying a 360. The 360 fanboy is the playground bully, pushes other weaker kids into the mud. The PS3 fanboy is the class nerd who thinks hes never wrong.

I think you got the bomb part of LBP right.

:)

LBP will do well, but not Fable 2 well. Fable 2 is coming as a sequel to a very well-received game that sold 3 million copies. LBP is coming from rampany "Sony is going to save itself" fanboyism that kept saying every single IP was going to make the system ascend to the heights.

Lair, Uncharted, Yakuza, MGS, DMC, GTAIV, Heavenly Sword, HSG and other IPs have all been quoted as all being some sort of innate savior of the PS3, and all have underwhelmed compare to past iteerations, or expectations of Sony fanboys. Why are we to randomly believe an IP with less 'cred' than half of the listed games is going to somehow blow the doors off of every retail store, and sell 3+ million copies to compare to Fable 2?

LBP would be very good to come within 1 million units of Fable 2.

while i agree with u in one respect, in the past games have not sold as expected on the ps3. but u have to understand fable 2 sequal and its an rpg. it has its own specifically defined genre it may be excellent.

Fable 2 has its audience, not everyone likes rpgs, and not everyone who likes rpgs likes wrpgs. LBP is something new, its fresh theres nothing like it, sony is marketing the crap out of it. ive played the beta, and can't really fault it as a game it gets a 10/10 from me purely because it has endless play, and it builds a community of friends. u heart players levels they heart urs, u play on there lvls they play on urs. they send u new items etc etc u get the point.

i know fable has 4 player co-op or will be implemented thats a good thing, but does the game benifit really from playing with others? i dont know u tell me ive only seen some of the stuff. LBP truely shines when playing with others. u miss so much if u only play alone.

so yeah if ur comparing sales wth any other generic ps3 title good or bad id agree with u but imo LBP is going either way. HUGE SUCCESS or BIG FLOP, and considering the budget of this game compared to previous ps3 games..... My money is on HUGE SUCCESS ;)

I don't know ... there are a lot of things which make me question the sales prospects of Little Big Planet. Games like Heavenly Sword and Uncharted had huge marketing budgets, were heavily hyped, and suited the existing userbase of the PS3 far more than Little Big Planet does and yet they never sold that amazingly well.

You seem to forget both of those titles are only action adventure games with a limited target audience .Uncharted actualy sold 400 k less than God Of War 2 which is probably one of the biggest Action adventure franchises on any console. Unlike Uncharted and Heavenly sword LBP has a much broader apeal , it has depth which apeals to the hardcore and ease of use and a concept which apeals to the casual gamer , I won't go into to much depth about LBP but it pretty much has something for everyone. Doesn't really matter how much money you poor into marketing a game if there isn't an audience for it.

On top of that, one of the things that causes me to doubt the performance more than anything else is that the people I know who own PS3 systems seem to not know or care about Little Big Planet. I know several people who own PS3 systems who would be classified as DINKs (Dual Income No Kids) or DILDOS (Dual Income Little Dog Only) who tend to have an amzingly ammount of disposable income to buy toys; the games these people seem interested in is Rock Band 2, Guitar Hero World Tour, Resistance 2, and Call of Duty World at War.

Hmm you're obviously  not aware of the huge buzz that LBP Is getting around the net , LBP dedicated fansites already , huge LBP threads on neogaf etc . I've heard LBP far more often than I have heard about LBP , the consumer is definetley more vocal with their interest for LBP even if there is actualy more demand for Fable 2.

I don't expect that people are going to spend $400 on a system to buy a single game when the rest of the library seems completely uninteresting to them, and I don't see people who are currently drooling over what the PS3 offers really buying this game in high quantities.

This is a big point and probably the biggest obstacle LBP faces in shifting PS3's but you'll find that the multi functionality of the PS3 will help alot , the bundle will most likely sell based on the apeal to different people in the household for different reasons e.g little sister wants to play LBP , older bro wants to play Socom , dad wants to whatch Blu-Ray etc.

I could be wrong, but I expect this game to have a very dedicated following rather than a very large userbase.

I think you will be proven wrong, I expect this game to have a large userbase which will eventualy leave a dedicated following playing LBP until a likely sequel arrives.

I think you're putting too much emphasis on what people on the internet think of games which (generally) does not relate to how games sell at all. All you have to do to understand this is consider the old poll where more people voted that Metal Gear Solid 4 would outsell Mario Kart Wii, and even with massive bundling of Metal Gear Solid 4 we saw that Mario Kart Wii will sell many times as many units.

You're making a decent number of assumptions here.  First off, even if your 90% figure that you so obviously pulled from whence the sun don't shine is true, that's assuming that there will never be any advertisement for the game.  Second, the idea is that the game appeals to both casuals and hardcore.  Casuals can play games on the disc as well as online, and hardcore can try their hand at creating their own level.

I still don't believe that LBP will be the casual magnet that PS3 owners want it to be.  Casuals are not the kind of people who are drawn to the idea of spending 24+ hours (whether continuously or over several days) to create a good level, nor do they typically search through and dowload other users' created levels. They want to pick up the game, play it a bit, then put it down until whenever they next get the urge to play.  Effectively they will be limited to the levels on the disc, and from the videos I've seen the actual platforming does not look terribly fun.  Sackboy's movements seem sluggish and imprecise, as opposed to the quick, crisp controls that made Mario into an icon.

LBP will sell well to the base, but in the end it will fall short of fanboy expectations.  Fable 2 will have no trouble equalling Fable 1's mark, and will eventually surpass it by a great deal - first week and lifetime.

Personally, if you are overhyping LBP sales, your hurting the game. Imagine all the "lawlz" threads the first week if LBP sells less units than Fable 2.

You should downplay its sales, so when it does great, you can write the lawlz threads.

That said, my guess was that Fable 2 would win. I'd say that if I was a PS3 fanboy anticipating LBP. A, it's probably true, and 2, if it's not true, there is nothing but win for me.

So, why do PS3 fanboys insist on trying to get other people to validate their opinions on how well X game is going to do, or how well the PS3 is going to sell. I could care less if Fable 2 outsells LBP, honestly, but it still probably will. I wouldn't go around touting it like it was a fact, and being proud of it.

Your setting yourselves up for at best a meeting of expectations, and worst a huge dissapointment. I prefer to look at a half empty glass, and I'll always be surprised.

You guys have freakin' inferiority complex.

I don't need your console war.

Couldnt agree with u more, if both games sell well than both Sony and Microsoft should be happy beacuse they both are hopeing they will do well.

Fable 2 initially by quite a margin but LBP will have way better legs and pass it eventually.

Adverts will also make a much higher impact on LBP sales. This is because Fable 2 will be sold primarily to Fable 1 owners that are excited about the sequel. But LBP is something that most people will first see in adverts.

So LBP will keep selling very well as long as it is advertised. i.e. until the end of the holiday season and then by word of mouth.

Took the words out of my mouth.  LPB has more legs

PS3, WII and 360 all great systems depends on what type of console player you are.

Currently playing Call of Duty Modern Warfare 2, Fallout 3, Halo ODST and Dragon Age Origins is next game
