The Wii getting big 3rd party support is known, the real question is:what kind of games these devs have in mind for the system?...personally,I don´t expect the Wii to get "the Metal Gears,GTAs,Devil May Cries,Silent Hills,etc.."

That kind of games take years in development. You will see them, but more likely in late 08.

Why?

Actually, first he posted a list of 360/PS3 titles, and claimed that quantity actually was on that side. Once it was clear that it wasn't, then it became a quality argument. He's not the first to use this gradual, scaled back line of argumentation on this site when concerning the Wii. As I said beore, we've seen those who doubt the Wii gradually scale back their arguments: Pre-Launch October 2006: The PS3 will dominate this generation. The Wii may be Nintendo's last console. January 2007: Yeah, the Wii is selling well right now, but it's just a fad. It will fade by March ("The Storm IS coming!") March 2007: Okay, the Wii is still selling well, but where are the games? There are no games coming out for it. June 2007: Okay, now there are games coming out for it, but where are the games I LIKE? July 2007: God, I hate Nintendo.
Another similar argument has been used to claim that Nintendo is abandoning the hardcore. The arguments have gone like this: John: Nintendo is abandoning the hardcore! They aren't making any new hardcore games. Mike: Actually, yes they are. They announced Mario Kart Wii at E3, and with that, 16 of the 20 best selling games on the Gamecube have sequels published on the Wii or have had them announced as being in development. All of this, in the first year of the Wii's lifespan! John: Okay. But where are MORE hardcore games? I don't see many new IPs! Mike: Well, there are some. Disaster: Day of Crisis is an example. John: Okay, but where are a LOT MORE hardcore games? A few titles doesn't cut it!
These types of arguments can be reduced to infinity. You can always, always scale back further and further. For example: December 2007: Okay, so now there are good games coming for the Wii, but where are the competitive online games? March 2008: Okay, so now there are good competitive online games for the Wii, but where are the competitive onlin FPSes in particular? I don't see many of those! And so forth. |
I'm adding that to my sig.
Let's see what kind of games come out before we start celebrating, deal?
Also, I never made the claim there are more 3rd party 360/PS3 games coming on Wii just better ones.
I listed newly announced PS3/360 games in the last two months because someone else had claimed there was like 5 new games or so since April announced while the number was close to 25 in the last two months.
Wanna get into this debate again?

Thanks to Blacksaber for the sig!
Just wait until next Xmas. Publishers are seeing success of the Wii now - and seeing things like the balance board for the first time. Next Xmas will have a FLOOD of high quality titles hit the Wii.
It makes sense that the only titles they can bring to the Wii at the moment are either simple games (i.e. original party titles), or ports. Most developers didn't give a stuff about the Wii 9 months ago.

The Wii is not your ordinary system, the new Metal Gears won't be Metal Gear (MGS4 is the final in the series). Just like Metal Gear was specifically designed with the PS3. Now I expect the new top system sellers on the Wii to be designed specifically with the Wii in mind! Nintendo showed the way how to do it right with Wii Sports. Resident Evil: UC is a fine example of how a 3rd party game should look like. Even the remake of RE4 looks like it was destined to be a Wii game.
Well I'm not a fan of ports but it is a sign that developpers see money in it and they should. It is a sign that they will developp more and more unique games in the future. Untill the day games get ported from the Wii to other systems that are not a Nintendo system, Nintendo will keep stealing more and more 3rd party developpers to create unique games... eventually leading to more 3rd party exclusives.
Nintendo never needed those big 3rd party franchises to be successfull... now imagine Nintendo's success when those franchises will be heading to the Wii... The Wii beating PS2 numbers, it can be done!

The main reason we don't have to worry about ports in the long term? The crappy sales of ports in the short term. Resident Evil 4 doesn't count, on account of it's low price and how the Wii features actually enhances the gameplay.
