Forums - Nintendo - My Top Spin 3 impressions, Wii music and misinformed wii core gamers...

Its more like metaphor or figure of speech of what Im feeling, its not whats really happening. Do you really think gamers have multiple orgasm when theyre seeing megaton titles in a conference?

At the OP post, i want to re-edit it but its too late now. I think I'll make another thread next week about this, but with different title and OP post this time, without the elitist talk.

The problem of reviews is that they are based on technical point of views and not the fun-factor.

Which is the real basis of core gaming in general, but what I dont get was IGN says that Megaman 9 was hardcore, dont misunderstood me, I only knew it because I didnt read the review but because malstrom says it to his blog. He even says that MM9 was the herald of core gaming apocalypse, even I myself thinks MM9 wasnt hardcore. SURE, it was hard but its easy at the same time, with save points after the stage was finished, power ups and its too short. You can even finish it one stiing if you're really really good at it...

Regarding Wii Music, I was not originally impressed but I think the press is not giving us a fair view. Unlike GH/RB, this game seems to be not much about rhythm but rather about arrangement. In GH/RB, the song never changes, no matter how well you play the game. In Wii Music, different sets of instruments will sound very different one from the other. Furthermore, it seems the game perceives how many inputs you give the controls and change the playing style. Musically, this sounds much deeper than GH, but it may not draw the attention to gamers who are not very familiar with music.

Regarding Top Spin 3, I didn't cared much about the graphics and I liked the gameplay. However, it doesn't work with left handed gamers and you have to play with one of the preset characters. I would rather have a game, such as Wii Sports, where you can play with your own character and have its performance determined by the player own performance and not by a bunch of stats (service, volley, etc.). All this and the lack of online justify, IMHO, a sub 8 grade.

Well yeah, thats my gripe about the game too, but I get used to it, if Im left handed then I do what left handed too, I swing on the back side of the wiimote in tennis terms swing in the back of the racket.

Yeah, its not as strong as a real baseline shot but it works for me...

About top spin 3...I neer played the Wii version so it may be good. But the ps360 one was not good. Virtua Tennis rapes this game on the xbox 360.

Nothing can stand out with Virtua tennis its like PES already.   But atleast Top Spin 3 fill the hole of real tennis game for the Wii asides from Deca Sports and Wii Tennis.

YEAH, you will be disappointed by the graphics but the gameplay was actually good. You have little disadvantage being left handed though

This is what I feel yushire is trying to say:

1. That people should play the games of their choice -- others (including and especially reviewers) be damned.

EDIT -- 2. That people should try new things/different things with respect to gaming.

3. That reviewers are biased against the Wii and many of the types of games that appear on the Wii. Thus, they are predisposed to give those games lower scores.

4. That Wii Music has seen a lot of negative reports and posts because it is different -- and that this is amazing (and shows a bias) for a game that very few have seen or played.

My take

1 Certainly that is true.

EDIT -- 2. Certainly a good ida.

3. Certainly there is something to that. But what is worse is when games get lumped together without any attempt being made to differentiate between the two. Take for example the two games whose sales that Yushire sites -- Big Beach Sports and Deca Sports. Both are third-party attempts at creating "Wii Sports 2" (which Nintendo is only finally doing as a tech demo for Wii Motion Plus as it knows that it needs to move people away from this kind of game). To me, Big Beach Sports is clearly better. It offers some different sports and a DS-based face-maker option. Meanwhile, from playing it, it is apparent why Nintendo would not let Hudson use Miis in Deca Sports. But both received essentially the same review.

3. Wii Music is the pet project of Shigeru Miyamoto. Given his previous projects -- Mario, Zelda, etc. -- it probably would be wise to wait before sitting in judgment on this. I doubt he will be "corner officed" for this (getting put in the the corner office is a sign that you are no longer valued for your potential but rather for your past in Japan. It happened to Gunpei Yokoi because of the Virtual Boy -- and all he did was invent the Game & Watch and Gameboy). And since some of the guitar rhythm games (I think it is Rock Band 2) have incorporated a "no fail" mode, the idea of jamming for the sake of jamming appears to have some merit.

I think reviews should basically be looked at like this anything better than 60% some people will enjoy have fun with the game, dont worry when buying it probably lacking polish some where... anything less than 60% game probably has major flaws that keep you from being able to enjoy playing the game. see now everyone dose not need to take it so personal

honestly maybe they should go back to a yea you can have fun playing it/ oh my god why did they release such a crippled and buggy game..

granted there will still be people who love the crippled and buggy game, fans of the series, and what not

So what OP is trying to say is that Wii reviews should be given inflated scores because it is already known that Wii cannot compete with 360 and PS3 on a hardware level? That's a load of crap.

There's a reason why Nintendo's own first party titles (on average) are head and shoulders above everything else on the Wii, because Nintendo are making sure to cover all their bases (honestly, Super Mario Galaxy was a beautiful game, graphically and artistically. Ditto MP3).

To give Wii games a higher score for having good gameplay and crappy graphics would be as biased as giving a game like Army of Two high scores because it has good visuals but does exactly the same thing as every shooter in the past 3 years.

A Game should only be reviewed 80%+ (or whatever arbitrary value) if it is a well-rounded package. OP himself said Top Spin 3 visuals suck, therefore it is not a complete package like say Zack and Wiki or De Blob is, and should be reviewed as such.

I've played very few Wii games that I felt got a score lower then they deserved, and I've played alot of them. I honestly would not give a game a higher review just because waggle seems fresh, when clearly motion controls are one of the few things the game has going for it, if it's well implemented that's a different story, but just for being there when expected (like a tennis game using the wii-mote as a racquet) is as bad as giving a FPS higher marks for having a cross-hair.

One last thing, a review is the WRITER'S opinion, you can choose to ignore it like I can choose to ignore what you've said, or like how you can choose to ignore what I've said.

You can't have emphasis on one category of your review or you truly will hold bias, Nintendo didn't up the visuals from last gen too much, but that's no excuse for Wii games to look like they came from early last gen.
