Forums - General Discussion - New Gallup Poll has Obama up by 8 points.

Obama is at 50% and McCain is at 42%.  That is McCain's lowest percentage in a long time.  In comparison, it is Obama's highest percentage since after the DNC.  The Rasmussen poll in comparison has Obama up by six points for the same timeframe.  Today's results use data from 9/25-9/27.

Thoughts, questions, comments?  What does McCain need to do to distinguish himself in voter's minds again?  Can he make a comeback?  Did McCain's suspension of his campaign backfire?

We had two bags of grass, seventy-five pellets of mescaline, five sheets of high-powered blotter acid, a salt shaker half full of cocaine, a whole galaxy of multi-colored uppers, downers, screamers, laughers…Also a quart of tequila, a quart of rum, a case of beer, a pint of raw ether and two dozen amyls.  The only thing that really worried me was the ether.  There is nothing in the world more helpless and irresponsible and depraved than a man in the depths of an ether binge. –Raoul Duke

It is hard to shed anything but crocodile tears over White House speechwriter Patrick Buchanan's tragic analysis of the Nixon debacle. "It's like Sisyphus," he said. "We rolled the rock all the way up the mountain...and it rolled right back down on us...."  Neither Sisyphus nor the commander of the Light Brigade nor Pat Buchanan had the time or any real inclination to question what they were doing...a martyr, to the bitter end, to a "flawed" cause and a narrow, atavistic concept of conservative politics that has done more damage to itself and the country in less than six years than its liberal enemies could have done in two or three decades. -Hunter S. Thompson

RCP currently has Obama up 4.8 points nationally -- which is extremely encouraging.. there's still a lot to be done but I'm starting to feel comfortable that Obama will be president.

All we have to do is capture the states Kerry won and add Iowa, New Mexico (which Obama has large leads in) and Colorado (which has moved up and down but now has a RCP average of 5 points in favor of Obama)

Virginia, Ohio and Florida are all very important but its not absolutely necessary to win those states.

With what's been happening in VA recently an Obama victory is looking more and more likely.

now I feel safe that obama will be president but still things can change quickly in a short period of time.

Isn't the VP debate this week? I wonder what kind of effect it will have on the polls. It could bring McCain back into contention if Palin does well, or it could put Obama even further ahead.

I seriously doubt Palin will do well.. although she may benefit from extremely low expectations.

what would be hilarious is if Palin started off her debate with, "I personally believe that some people out there don't have maps...." and yada yada yada

I agree, she will be down right embarassing. I hope they ask her questions about dinosaurs and how old the earth is.
