360 price cut effect already waning in the states.....do MS have anything left to throw at the market to sustain a long term sales boost?

In the three weeks since the 360 price drop, it has outsold the PS3 in North America by 66% (week 1), 89% (week 2) and 63% (week 3). This doesn't look like a "waning" effect of the price drop; it looks like both 360 and PS3 sales are declining gradually, at about the same percentage rate.

wow nicee cherry picking. You fail to mention. 1st week = Japan + NA price cut 2nd week = Major game release. 3rd week = europe price drop.

Like I said last week 360 dropped again.... and we should all expect more drops next week. I say 5k in each region. So 10k Japan, 66k NA, and 60k Others. I got flamed last week for saying that the numbers weren't impressive. This week they are even worse....

Dude, the numbers for this week 360 in Japan would most likely have been over 20,000 if it wasnt sold out again in most shops acros Japan. (and yes there is proof over in the M$ forum with pics again showing sold out). Also even the wii thi week in america is low (resons already mentioned) so the 360 has done rather well. If america market was normal I would have said Wii 120,00, 360 85,000 and PS3 50,000 this week. So I think M$ should be very happy.

Given the rapidly expanding Blu-Ray sections of pretty much every store (which sells movies) that I've been to in the last few months, I would say that the PS3 is pretty far from "a wrap" in the US. Lol. Making assumptions that large, just two weeks after a price cut of all things, is... pretty ridiculous.

The only thing unexpected here is the relatively lower Wii percentage of the total sales, and the low numbers overall. The fact that the 360 is outselling the PS3 for a couple weeks post-pricecut is expected. Expected in the sense that it is "Retail 101" obvious.

when a xbox360 pricecut doesn't move much why would a ps3 priceput would? BUHAHAHA you guys fail everytime

it's called demand my friends. there is more demand for the ps3. especially at a lower price. this price cut was suppose to help MS raise demand to get a comfortable week in week out lead on the ps3. Well... next week there will be another drop for the 360 and it would most likely be a statistical tie.

I believe Wii is supply constrained. Stockpiling them up to increase demand for Oct-December Xmas sales surge.

It's a fact Wii is supply constrained, heh. Wiitracker still has no Wii' s available (unless you want the $500 bundles). Still going above MSRP on ebay and Amazon, still sold out at all major retailers online (Bestbuy, Wal Mart, Target, Circuit City etc. etc.).

Nintendo is making 2.4 mil a month, yet we are only seeing 300k / week or about 1.2 mil a month, makes me wonder where those extra Wii's are going.

I see a lot of them sitting on store shelves locally.  Wiitracker is BS.  And where do you get that  2.4 mil/month number from?

From Nintendo.

Could I trouble you for some maple syrup to go with the plate of roffles you just served up?

@groucho: Your blind optimism about the PS3 is showing. You expect things that will never happen, like the Wii dying instantly and the Xbox 360 too.

Just by looking at your predictions in your sig anyone can tell you are a blind Sony follower/Nintendo and MS fierce hater.

OT: This is the slowest week for the Wii in WW sales since March 2008, in fact it's the 4th lowest week of the year. I predict Wii will not go below 300k in any week until the next year.

Bets with Conegamer:

Pandora's Tower will have an opening week of less than 37k in Japan. (Won!)
Pandora's Tower will sell less than 100k lifetime in Japan.
Stakes: 1 week of avatar control for each one.

Fullfilled Prophecies

ps3 is doomed

Sales wise would show that demand for the PS3 is not that high. Just look at Japan right now the 360 outsold the PS3 and The Wii. Who would of thought that? Month to month numbers are a lot worse for the PS3 then the 360 simply because the 360 is a year older. The fact the 360 is still outselling the PS3 is a massive blow for Sony. The second year of the PS3 should of been the time it pulls back the gap and then pulls ahead. That hasen't happened and lets be honest doesn't looklike happening. Sales in Japan since MGS4 have been pretty bad. Sales in europe have not been good either. So to say there is demand for a cheap PS3 is a massive assumption because it is saying their isn't demand for a cheaper Wii or 360.

could this just be a shock! reaction to the economy that is temporarly slowing sales, during a traditional slow month (excluding mega game releses like last year). christmas will be interesting

Because a price drop and brand new game doesn't move consoles at all... and the Ps3 hasn't outsold the 360 this year by 2 mil either.... right? ...oh wait...
