I really thought the days of ppl looking down there noses at me because I was a nintendo fan had well and truly gone. How wrong I was.

Yesterday, while out with a few friends down the local pub, we started to talk about everything from girls to drink, from cars to movies. But then the discussions (if you can call them that between 4 half drunk plonkers) quickly moved on to videogames. How quickly the tone changed. We all pretty much excepted we had different tastes when it came to things like music, movies etc, but with videogames it was totally different.

My first mistake was to reveal that I was infact a big nintendo fan (I also own a psp, ps2 and a 360). Immediatly my friends looked at me as if id grown another head. "nintendo makes kiddie games", " i played them when i was 10" and "nintendo games have crap graphics" were just a few of the usual replys thrown in my direction with such venom! At this point I was out numbered 3 to 1 and found it increasingly hard to justify my love of nintendo. Every reason for my love of nintendo was quickly counteracted with with stupid reasons " its got blue ray" (but funily enough none of them ownd hd tvs) "playstation makes the best games" etc etc. I just couldnt believe what i was hearing!

As quick as the topic of videogames came up it went and we were just friends again. Just what is it about videogame that makes ppl behave like this? Im not for one second saying all sony fanboys ( hate that term btw ) are like this, cuz there not.

What all this tells me is that weither you like it or not the playstation brand is still very strong indeed. Your average joe who doesnt go on to websites such as vgcharts, doesnt know or care that wii is outselling the ps3 by a wide margine worldwide. To these ppl (and there are alot of them) videogames are all about playstation still, yes this perception may be getting weaker, but it is still very much there. I know that this is a deeply flawed arguement and many ppl on this website will jump on and bite me but if the ps3 and wii were the same price then the ps3 would sell more. I dont like it but then thats just my opinion. hell you could put playstation on a toaster and it'll sell. it worked for the ps3 (grill). hehe sorry cheep shot.

Has anybody else experience ppl attitudes to you b4 if you love nintendo? Im also interested if ppl get this attitude from nintendo and microsoft fanboys? ( again i hate that term, but what else do you call them?)

Actually most people I talk to say they want a Wii or a Ds when I bring up the topic of Nintendo, or they talk about smash

Honestly, when I hear about video games these days in the big bad outside world, Wii has been stealing alot of the spotlight, Playstation brand is still strong but it's losing it fast, alot of the attitudes here (AUS) are quite negative for the PS3, especially considering there are literally 6-7 games to chose from on the shelf and it cost so much, no-one here knows or gives a crap about Blu-ray, PS3's built in Blu-ray player is the only one available that I have ever seen, also ontop of that of course there are about 4 movies to chose from, once again only available in video games stores.

Well, were i come from, Nintendo always gets much grief because it does not have Pro Evolution Soccer on Wii. (Very popular here, it's the only videogame console owners  other than nintendo talk about.  And as usual, because Mario isn't a pimp that shoots bitches down, Wii is "kiddy".  But the Wii gets more respect i have to admit , than the purple  gamecube. And Psp owners are all "hack this and that" but they can't say anything to the ds.

I feel your pain man. I have been told similar things. When I was going to NY I told my friend I would look for a Wii (even though they were hard to find). He asked me if I would not feel stupid playing with my hands in the air and said I`d better get a PS triple. I was speechless for some seconds and answered him: Yes I would really look cool playing Motorstorm.

It is not likely he knew PS3 games out he just assumed that it is better since PSX and PS2 had more games. I do not oppose discussion about video game systems, but when someone tell me to avoid a system because it is "gay", "retarded" or "Kiddy" I lose all my hope in mankind.

In my country consoles aren't very popular. Most gamers are on the PC and piracy is very high. There is only one person I know who owns a console and he prefers Nintendo.

and, in europe, sony hype is awesome.

You have to know than before PS1, people just didnt care a lot about videogames.
Ofc, a lot of people know nintendo but they have stoped to play these games when they become adolescent. At this moment, PS name appear, conquer adolescent and open the market to new customers 20-30 year old with more mature game. They introduce some ""realistic"" simulation to casual gamers : GT/Fifa/PES. It iseasier to use and cheapier than a PC. I dont mention the "switch" that alllow u to make illegal copy work on the system.

There is definitely a GENERATION playstation in europe.

Since Wii work in another category, Wii can (and is) make great things.
Wii is cheapier and allow u to play differently.
But typically, Xbox360 will just never catch PS3 even if PS3 is more expensive.
Just about GTA4, from a retailer words, people want to buy GTA4on PS3, not on Xbox360.
Just wait a price drop (a "true" one) for PS3 and you will see PS3 sales increase SIGNIFICATIVELY.

Here in Mexico, the Playstation brand was very popular before the Wii was released... I always heard things like "PS has the most games" and "PS has the best graphics" (I always laughed at that one), and also was very popular because it was very easy to mod the console and buy pirated games.

Would you believe me that I never saw an original PS1 game? but nowadays, the Wii is the real deal. If you have a Wii is like "OMG you HAVE a WII". PS3 is seen as the console for big fat lifeless nerds here. Xbox 360 is seen as the console for the young, single adult male.
