Forums - Nintendo - How Nintendo Could Counter LBP

the Wii.... it's been countering a lot of 360 and PS3 exclusives on it4s own so far, so I guess it'll do just fine by itself for LBP too.

thread would be more interesant if you said how MS could counter LBP....

Nintendo does not need to counter anything thus far this gen. Their only weak spot is 3rd party quality software so far and hopefully that will be realized throughout 2009.

Personally, I don't think LBP is going to be as big a hit as some people want it to be. Sure it will sell a couple million, but i don't think it will break 5, thus not putting it into the levels of Mario/Zelda/GTA, etc.

The only company who needs to counter LBP's possible success would be Microsoft.

Okay, so some of you think that it cannot be countered and some think it doesn't need to be. Would the original idea of a Mario with a level editor be a good idea or a bad one?

I've never been fond of level editors/creators. I would love another Mario on the same level as Galaxy though.

seems derivative. Nintendo, do not, repeat do not pull a BK3 on Mario.

“When we make some new announcement and if there is no positive initial reaction from the market, I try to think of it as a good sign because that can be interpreted as people reacting to something groundbreaking. ...if the employees were always minding themselves to do whatever the market is requiring at any moment, and if they were always focusing on something we can sell right now for the short term, it would be very limiting. We are trying to think outside the box.” - Satoru Iwata - This is why corporate multinationals will never truly understand, or risk doing, what Nintendo does.

wii music will be HUGE!

This for me too.

If GTAIV couldn't stop the wii, I hardly believe that Little Big Planet, no matter how good it is, could make Nintendo dip down enough to be forced to counter.

i don't think any hardcore game will decrease wii sales.

simply demography doesn't even get close.

nintendo core doesn't like shooters unless its golden eye (that its rumored to go XBLA).

soccer mom/parents/gramps won't buy gore M+ AAA title not matter the reviews for them or especially their kids that are the one that buy games reason why gta4 mgs4 didn't do much for 360/ps3 but did increase both consoles sell together over 600k for the week.

but LBP got a HUGE APPEAL.

from core hardcore, parents.
the only thing stopping this game to be a major success its the ps3 price but i think this game will have AWESOME LEGs and continue selling a long after release.

They already have.

Excite Bike for the NES had a great level editor. They just need to put those levels online.

Also it's funny watching console players being so happy to edit levels, something PC users have been doing since forever.

PC + Wii owners unite.  Our last-gen dying platforms have access to nearly every 90+ rated game this gen.  Building a PC that visually outperforms PS360 is cheap and easy.    Oct 7th 2010 predictions (made Dec 17th '08)
