Expect the new LCD screen to improve things a bit and extend the PSP's lifetime. Improvements in hardware can be almost as good as a redesign for an update of things. Also, expect another redesign of the screen by 2011 or 2012 as we are already incorporating new display technologies like OLED that compared to even the best LCD screens give:
-better resolution
-are cheaper
-better, brighter and more vivid colors
-thinner resulting in a much lighter PSP
We're already have a few phones that are using OLED, granted they are top of the line phones, but that won't be for long as the price for the technology is dropping fast since its still new.
So, I think that a OLED screen could help sony out in a few years by making the PSP better and cheaper.....as well as the DS
Heck, Sony is also going to give access to HOME w/ the PSP which will also extend its life. All in all, don't listen to the haters.....the PSP should have a normal 5-7 year lifespan until something else comes along.

Except for FF Agit0 13, some other S-E game & 2 level-5 exclusives

look....I am in no way defending it....I hate the thing -- definetely the most disappointing playstation device ever (except it lets me play FF7 CC)......
but you can't deny that PSP big name SW support is still present....atleast Japan wise....S-E didn't change a mobile exclusive to a PSP exclusive for no reason

The problem is that publishers are only seeing the merits of PSP software sales in Japan. All other regions are not really being considered. Anyone that likes what's being offered over there will reap the benefits but everyone else that expected the range of genres from 2006-2007 to continue are finding themselves S.O.L. It also boils down to the simple fact that the PS2 is dying off and a lot of the software the PSP was getting were PS2 ports. Without that easy avenue, a lot of publishers are going to simply leave the PSP out of the loop entirely as time goes on once they drop their PS2 support.
A bit off-topic but has anyone head any word on Metal Gear 3 yet for the PSP?

Hardware - wise |
You do know that it has every chance to sell more software then the GC/N64 or Xbox... and for a handheld that should be dead software wise... I say its pretty dman respectable...
