Forums - Nintendo - Wiiconnect24 overheating and damaging Wii GPU

this happened to mine in february and i was using it daily.

it took nintendo about 2 weeks to replace the console, all of my VC games were transfered but my game saves weren't, luckerly i backed them up on a SD card.

id reccomend using the OFF (red light) option until nintendo resolves the issue.

I'm going to have to agree with others in the thread stating Nintendo's stellar hardware duribility record. THey haven't had issues with consoles since the NES so I seriously doubt there is an issue here.

Also, considering the number of Wiis out there you would think this would be a bigger issue if it were a serious claim. Heck, Nintendo has nearly the same number of console as Microsoft has out there right now and there is hardly a mummur, but if you look at the 360....

ditto here.

it took nintendo 10 days to get my new Wii to me.  i had to redownload all my VC games and all my saves were gone.

that didn't bother me so much.  what i'm upset about is i tried to Edit one of my Mii's the other night and it said that I didn't have access to do that.  It said I had to be the creator of the Mii to edit...which I AM!!!!

but, it's really not that big a deal.  I'm just glad i have a Wii that works now.  I turned off my WiiConnect24 today during lunch.

Sorry to be somewhat off topic but I need some advice.
So, I am experiencing this problem and there are yellow dots on my screen.
How should I fix this?:
1) Send my Wii to nintendo to get it fixed.
OR
2)Exchange my Wii at toys r' us for a new one. (My Wii is covered under a 2 year waranty)

If Toys R' Us will take the Wii and exchange there, do that, but that's assuming 1) they will do the exchange and 2) they have a spare Wii sitting around.

More than likely they won't take the Wii if you've had it more than a week or two (assuming here, don't really go to Toys R' Us) so you'll likely just have to contact Nintendo and I'm sure there's information how to do that on their site.

When I am done using my system I simply pull the plug from the wall. I have no problems with overheating. And I dont keep the system in yellow light mode, it is either green light or no light in my house.

This depend on whether or not you want to keep your virtual console games and Internet channel, if you don't care or have none of those I listed, exchange at Toy R'Us is much faster.

P.S. So... people are coming in to ... well, let's just not turn this thread into flamebait...

P.P.S. Where's the Joystiq article?

I am a PC gamer, and also have a NDS now, but without access to a Nintendo Wii until End of 2007.

Currently playing: Super Smash Brothers Brawl(Wii), Mystery Dungeon: Shiren the Wanderer(DS), Dragon Quest Heroes: Rocket Slime (DS), WiiFit(Wii)

Games Recently Beaten: Final Fantasy Crystal Chronicles: My Life as a King (Normal; Very Hard after the next DLCs become available)

1 word: RTFA

I'm not convinced the GPU glitches have anything to do with WiiConnect24. The GPU on my Wii (early build bought Thanksgiving weekend) had the problem, but it was only noticeable when playing more graphically intense games. I'm not even convinced the issues were due to overheating at all, as they would turn up immediately on starting into a game with any 3-D scene with a layer of fog or dust in the foreground. No issues on Wario Ware or Cooking Mama, but they did show up in Twilight Princess and Godfather. Sent mine in, was exchanged for a new unit, no sparkling pixels on this one at all with WiiConnect24 enabled for two months now. (Nintendo's repair facility copied all my configuration and save data over, but I had to redownload the firmware updates and VC games.)
