I hope the game is a lot better than Halo 3...

In terms of sales, I guess that would greatly depend on the marketing budget. Halo is very much the flagship product for XBox consoles, so that would be quite an achievement to near this game's attach ratio. Maybe Killzone 2 will drag many more FPS gamers towards the PS3 platform, so this may help attach rates for the long run (people buying both Resistance 2 and Killzone 2).

There is absolutley no possible way that Resistance 2 will flop. The fact that Sony is releasing it three days before Gears of War just shows how confident they are in the title. They need a shooter to compete with what is easily the 360's biggest upcoming game (2008). Sure, Gears will sell a hell of a lot more (and probably, at least by my standards, be the better game) than R2, but R2 will still get great reviews and sell a shitload of copies.

To answer the thread: no, I don't think Resistance is Sony's Halo. I actually have interest in playing Resistance 2 while Halo 3 turned me off of that series completely. It was a pathetic sequel to say the last. Also, Sony has alot more flagship franchises than just Resistance. Halo is MS's #1 franchise, so if we were to talk about that in relation to Sony, God of War is PS3's Halo - despite not being an FPS.

There are PLENTY of FPSs better than Halo. Halo was just a breakout hit because it was genuinely a good game, and the original Xbox had like, no games.

Now, it sells well based on name.

With that said, not every FPS should be compared to Halo. Resistance is a great game. Why Halo? Why not COD or some other FPS? Halo is not the end all, be all

Halo sells well based on name?  There are PLENTY of FPSs better?  That would be opinion, not fact...Halo 3 is the #2 game played on Live and it has competition for players from Gears and COD4.  Clearly this is a game that MANY people still thorougly enjoy.

Regardless, as far as impact/importance to it's platform, I think Insomniac would be happy if Resistance was compared to the Halo series.

Personally, I think that R2 will be much better than Halo 3, as do I think Gears 2 will be. However, Halo has the absolutely huge fanbase that thinks it's a 10/10 game, with the gaming media agreeing in unison.

Yes it does sell on name....now. Otherwise, you wouldn't see it on Mountain Dew cans, NASCAR memorabilia....I mean, they even made an ad with Pontiac's G6 GXP. Now I already said it was genuinely a good game...but 8+ million good? I don't think so.

COD4, Team Fortress, Half Life, Unreal Tournament, etc. are all better games, yet don't come close to Halo's sales. And the only reason that it's the #2 is because, what, 50% of the 360 userbase in America (it's only strong hold) bought the game, because Halo is essentially the identity of the Xbox

You are rediculously mistaking if you think any of those games come to the full package of halo 3. COD4 comes close but lack of co-op and vehicle weapons keep it back. The rest are not even in the same league as Halo 3

I don't know. The game hasn't come out. Sounds like they have everything needed to take over the FPS crown... However MP 70 maps, great graphics an every feature known to man, doesn't automatically make it the best FPS. It has to have that...X-factor...personality...

And this is something completely missing from R1.

So we will have to wait and see.

You can say whatever you want about Halo but the ppl that dont like it are always going to have to shout it to the world which may leave the wrong perception. Just b/c YOU don't like doesnt mean thousands of others don't. The fact is if Halo only sold on its name it wouldnt even get a glimpse at 8 million. 

Now on-topic: Honestly I don't think it could ever reach the popularity or commercial sales as Halo despite the fact it really is shaping up to be a killer game and a definite 1 day purchase. If I had to pick the game/series that is the flagship for Sony (not caring which genre) I'd have to go with Gran Turismo. When I think Sony I think GT just like with Nintendo you think Mario/Zelda and Halo with the 360. Just my 2 cents.
