Forums - General - McCain suspending his campaign

@ theprof00

You are right - but I pray JP6 will think of his decision as political manuevering.

What I find funny is - how good of a job would he do with this bailout plan when his finance guru said the U.S. is full of whiners, and he himself thinks the economy is fundamentally sound? And how in the devil do you spin that for good.

Numbers don't lie - when it's war, folks vote GOP. When it's the economy, they vote Dems.

He should just stick to doing what he needs to - accept the Palin bounce is fading like the Studebaker brand and just soldier on - and not to try to work on something you don't know JACK about.

And I quote: “I’m going to be honest: I know a lot less about economics than I do about military and foreign policy issues. I still need to be educated.”

Complete political gimmick by McCain. Their presence in Washington will only be a distraction.

McCain has not only showed a lack of leadership during this crisis, but also an extreme ignorance of the state of our economy and what needs to be done. Right now he is going for a "bombshell mega announcement" to get all eyes and ears back on his campaign, and hope that it is dramatic enough that he is perceived as a leader on this issue.

Right now its more important than ever to keep the scheduled debates we have so that the American people can make an informed decision. Congress will work out the issues in the bailout (hopefully involving oversight and protections instead of that scary "non disclosure + non reviewable by courts" proposal by that mega-douche Paulson), and our candidates need to stay the course and show us which one has the understanding and judgement to be president.

harsh quote madskillz, hope people can get past the pro-choice pro-equality issues and take note of whats going on here.

Hmm, I watched both Obama's and McCains speeches and I have to say this is quite a gamble. If McCain is credited for fixing the economy, but if ANYTHING goes wrong, it won't help him and may in fact hurt him to the point of handing the election to Obama.

The main problem? This won't fix anything before Nov. 4th. It's not a cure-all - and won't fix measures for a while. If you want relief, nothing Congress proposes will help in the short haul.

With that said, the next pres will have time to correct it. Let's see where the candidates stand and quit playing Pres until they are actually President.

You're correct in saying that the bail-out will probably not fix anything because there are much deeper problems with how the US ecconomy has been handled ... At the same time, the bail out will probably dramatically improve all of the markets in the short run and on election day the Bail-out may look like it solved the problem.

You are right on that - but - seeming one of the largest car dealerships in the country shut its doors today, and the four failing companies are under FBI investigation, and adding more fuel to the fire is McCain's aids taking $15K a month from one of the failed firms - he can say what he wants, and let's not even let Palin and her scandals enter the picture - and anyone can see he's tired. He doesn't grasp how reality works. That 3 a.m. phone call is coming - he can't just say 'Leave me a message and I'll get back to you after tea and crumpets.' No, Happy. That's not how life works.

One of my favorite movies of all-time is Crimson Tide. If you haven't seen it, you owe it to yourself to watch it.

It's basically old skool vs. new school thinking. But one of the best scenes involves the captain running a submarine drill right after a kitchen fire just broke out. Denzel felt it was a bad time to run the drill, but the Captain felt it was the perfect time to run it. Why? Chaos shouldn't be an excuse to be unprepared. I didn't agree initially with him, but realized the Cap'n was actually correct.

The POTUS is one of the top jobs in the world, right behind being a daddy. If you need a timeout, retire. Only full-time workers need apply.

@ theprof00 - just keeping it real.

It just reinforces the fact Obama is the more partison canidate.

You guys do realize that they are Still both senators.. right? That means they still need to fulfill their duties. Right now the most important legislation in decades is sitting on the table and you guy think is better for Obama to continue debate prep? Get your heads out of your asses. please.

If there is anything McCain is trying to is he is trying to get the Foriegn policy debate pushed to the last debate before the election. McCain will thwomp Obama in that one, but that is the only thing that comes to mind.

Obama says presidents need to be able to do more than one thing at a time? No crap. But when a major crisis comes along I want my president to be able to take care of it, and leave his other duties to the various secretaries.

Obama's response was obvious. He did not want to make it look like he is giving into mccain. I am sure if Obama had thought of it first you guys would have thought it was an AWSOME idea.

Change We Need!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! FTW

Gimmick?

Figures you would say that. Like I said in my earlier post, I guess Obama finds it more important to work on debate prep... Yea that what we need, I president who can TALK about fixing things and study for debates at the SAME TIME. Obama is truly amazing. Props.

From what I can see is most people are saying that Obama's response is weak and expected... That is unless you consult the Huffington Post.

McCain FTW!

http://www.cnn.com/2008/POLITICS/09/24/suspend.timeline/index.html     fixed....

this article NOT FROM FOXNEWS (your welcome all fox news haters) seems to indicate that this blindsided Obama... I think the non- biased American thinks this is a move very big on Mccain...

Think about it... Are the Dems going to CRITISIZE him for trying to help fix the crisis? Lol, I sure hope they do.

And it figures you would say that bigjon. From what I can see, most people are saying that McCain's actions are a political stunt, unless you consult Fox News. See how that works?

First it was Obama is afraid of debates. Now its "all Obama wants to do is debate". Make up your minds... owait, that's what doublespeak if for, my bad.

McCain is proving nothing except that he can't handle more than one task at a time. What's he going to do if we have to deal with a crisis in the middle east and a crisis in our economy at the same time?

"I'm sorry Iran, but if you dont' mind, I'd like to postpone things while I spend some time trying to figure out what the hell a credit swap is and why my economy keeps bombing, even though I keep giving more tax breaks to the rich. The other republicans said it would work!".

bigjon use factcheck.org for god sake!
