Forums - General - McCain suspending his campaign

It's an interesting political ploy, it gives the impression of him being more in charge on the financial issue but it also opens him up to attacks by Obama.

To me, it really looks like he wants to take a timeout. And I didn't use the huffington post version either. I definitely agree with Obama on this one. Neither one is president, and offering their plans was enough for me. Do the debates and let the rest of Congress go on the record. They'll have enough time to focus on that mess when they hit office.

What is he going to do for the economy?

Not only is this an obvious political ploy, but it is crazy for anyone to suggest that they fulfill their jobs as senators.

It is an obvious political ploy. They are both running for president, everything they do now is a political ploy.

Political ploy or not... it's the right decision.

lol.

McCain is falling steadily. Not only in polls, but public opinion. He's just trying to turn it around, but it's not gonna work out for him.

I predict a landslide victory for Obama.

But what do I know, I'm not registered to vote.

@ DMJ

Dude, you have a 30-day window if you wanna vote. I plan to vote in early voting soon, me and my wife. If I was in Louisiana, my son, daughter and dead relatives could vote.

OT: The last people to suspend their campaign included 'Baby Drama' John Edwards and Mitt Romney. Neither one is president - and their words only carry weight in their party. Let Bush handle his mess - and let the men debate. McCain needs to realize he's expendable and not necessary for one vote - what about the other votes he's missed?

I think the old geezer is running on fumes. His campaign manager wasn't straight talking and accepting Freddie money - Palin is hot and a delight to watch, but is clueless as a world leader - and with a race this close, every change counts. Taking the lead in this crisis may look good now, but will likely cost him more votes and giftwrap the election for Obama.

Suspend your campaign, McLame. See ya.

I know it is a political ploy. It is also crazy of us to expect our elected officials to fulfill their duties. "I will well and faithfully discharge the duties of the office on which I am about to enter;" how dare we expect them to fulfill the oath they took.

Hmm, I watched both Obama's and McCains speeches and I have to say this is quite a gamble. If McCain is credited for fixing the economy, but if ANYTHING goes wrong, it won't help him and may in fact hurt him to the point of handing the election to Obama.

The main problem? This won't fix anything before Nov. 4th. It's not a cure-all - and won't fix measures for a while. If you want relief, nothing Congress proposes will help in the short haul.

With that said, the next pres will have time to correct it. Let's see where the candidates stand and quit playing Pres until they are actually President.

well, 70% in the poll on ccn.com think its a ploy
