Valve: Team Fortress 2 Updates Not Coming To PS3 Orange Box

We can't say we didn't see it coming, but to hear, straight from the mouths of Valve's Doug Lombardi and Gabe Newell, that PlayStation 3 owners are going to get the shit end of the Team Fortress 2 stick still hurts. I *have* that version! I also have the Steam and Xbox 360 versions, but still... ouch.

1UP confirmed with Gabe and Doug that the updates PC users are currently enjoying, which are coming to the 360 later this year won't be hitting the PS3. Why? Valve simply has no PS3 manpower to speak of. And EA is "not doing ongoing development on The Orange Box" on Sony's box.

It's simple really, if you don't have the people, you can't do the work. We just hope that the boys and girls at EA do right by the few of us who opted for the PS3 SKU — and will think about this kind of stuff in the future.

I find this to be quite lame.... I don't have the game... but I still find this quite lame. Can't they just work on it after the 360 version???

EDIT: This is my greatest thread ever.

Not sure why...Just wait a few days and some sort of answer will come out.

Former something....

If this was just one studio, then i would be after them too, but Sony made a console that is simply difficult to deal with. Most third party publishers just prefer the 360 and it shows. Now it's up to Sony to provide them with the right tools and help to make it easier to develop these games.

Frankly Valve is a PC developer the only reason there are any Xbox360 updates is because the platform is easy to convert to.

EA did a PS3 version simply because they like to milk a game for all it's worth and don't care if the conversion is good or not. After service support? Updates? Forget them - This is EA.

Don't blame Valve - blame EA. Making a great developers look bad is what they excel at.

I'm pretty sure Valve didn't develop the PS3 port. That's probably why.

None of your options - they don't have the manpower.

I vote don't care. I have the orange box on computer and never play it so you can see i don't care.

Valve is not tiny, but they're not EA either.

In order to port Left 4 Dead from PC to 360, they needed like 4 guys...just to work out controls, interfaces, and various technical steps. Generally though, they say, porting to the 360 is pretty much pushing a big red button and you're done...so why the hell wouldn't they give 360 owners a chance to play their games?

Now, the PS3. I don't why people throw around words like "bias" or "lazy" when it comes to larger videogame developer companies. If they can surely make money on a game, they're going to do it. If they could push a big red button to port to the PS3, they would.

But you can't...the PS3 is very different to develop for, and it simply requires a lot more people, a whole new team basically, to port to the PS3. Big huge companies can do this because they've got the resources and existing PS3 developers to do it. Developers that work on both 360 and PS3 games all the time won't have to put out much money to make multiplatform games...it will cost them more on the PS3 version though to be sure.  PC/360 developers would have to throw out a bunch of money on a game that might not make enough back.

I'm guessing it isn't a sure thing that if Valve hired a bunch of PS3 developers to port Left 4 Dead or work on TF2 content, that they'd get their money back...and the next Valve game will surely be a ways off, at least a year...why would they just throw money away?

Bet with disolitude: Left4Dead will have a higher Metacritic rating than Project Origin, 3 months after the second game's release.  (hasn't been 3 months but it looks like I won :-p )
