^^ lol... I love that scene... I would shoot my foot any day before facing the terrors of war... and if they made me go back after recovery I would shoot myself in the same place the minute I get my gun... if everyone did that there would be no war and a bunch of limping heros :)

Well, if he is not willing to fight, why join the army? He should have predicted that the US might do something like this, and it is his fault for signing up, when he might have to fight in a war which he thinks is immoral, so I certainly think that he should be shipped back to the US. Whether it is jail or another sort of punishment is another question, personally I would just fine him and dishonourably discharge him from the army

I'm on the military's side with this one. The military gives it's members room, board, training, prestige, discounts, insurance, etc. They take care of their own. In return, you have to be willing to follow orders without question, and sacrifice in the name of the country. I'm sure the military fulfilled it's every promise. This guy is a coward in the guise of a protester.

^^ Eventhough I mostly agree I am not sure the army really takes care of their own that much... they do as long as you are in the battlefield but I read a lot of bad things about people beeing left alone with their problems after returning from the war... the healthcare was lousy for mayn expecially with psycological problems... but hopefully they took care of that... the only guy I know who was in Irak has been in the army for a long time and speaks very highly of it...

I would have sided with the military if the war wasn't illegal.

Plus, if he's unwilling to fight, punish him with other jobs instead of having him as a liability on the battlefield.

^^ How can a war be illegal ??? It might be unjustified and a crime but the hole point of going to war is to leave legal and political means behind...

Besides he is a soldier... what keeps and army going is a chain of command... every soldier knows and accepts that... if you want to be an individual and make your own decisions fine... but then don´t go to the military and join a chain of command where it is essential that you follow orders...

I agree with this. Go with what has to happen, not what sounds "nice" but could ruin the system for everyone in the long run.

The Iraq war is not illegal. As required by the US Constitution, President Bush asked Congress for permission to go to war and they gave it to him. If they want to take away that permission, they can, but they haven't. Also, that guy is a moron. He joined the army of his own free will. He has no right to not serve his term of duty. If he didn't want to go to Afghanistan, he shouldn't have joined the army.
