So far, I think it's been great. We have 255 titles on the Virtual Console and another 31 games already for WiiWare in just over four months since it's North American debut. There have definitely been some clunker titles and those just to make a quick buck on both the VC and WW but there have also been many great classics and new favorites. What I'm curious about is how many people are actually using the service or are familiar with it. I know many on here use it but most of us are "gamers" who try to get the most out of their system(s). How many casual fans and part time gamers are using it.
I think something Nintendo should try doing to get more people interested in it or at least trying it is to give free VC points for doing things like buying new games or subscribing to their magazine, etc. If and when Nintendo releases the new Star Fox or F-Zero, they could package a card for downloading the earlier game or games for free. It would be an incentive to buy the new game as well as getting many first time customers to the VC. Once they see it and use it, maybe they would become interested in using it again in the future. It would mean more money for Nintendo no matter what but also could greatly increase the sales of VC/WW games. This would lead to more games, especially on WiiWare if more developers sign on.
I also would like to see more real games on WiiWare. There have been a few but many of the others have been simulations like the recent fish tank game or games that were modified from being a cell phone game. Others just seem like very small minigames. I'd love to see more stuff like Megaman 9 and other types of real sit down and play games for WiiWare. This is where some smaller publishers could really shine by showing their stuff. And as I mentioned above, if Nintendo brings more users to the service, it could mean a lot more money and thus opening the door of oppertunity for all involved.
Any opinions?
I'll come up with something better eventually...
