Lol.

Malstrom is not on a roll.

I'm not even going to waste my time reading this one, as I already read his other fail post about Wii Music.

"My time is too valuable to waste on this drivel, but not so valuable that I won't take the time to tell you that I'm not going to waste my time on this drivel."

I'd read this for real, but...reading any of his posts are just feuling the fire.

I therefore confidently await your post in ten minutes, telling us that you read this post too, and don't like it.

Lolx

I wasn't going to read it, but I decided to give him a fair shot on the Wii music thingy.

But I am in love with MM9, so Malstrom can suck it.

He has some valid points in there.

Meh, you know I'm just teasing you (although I still don't get the Malstrom hate, but whacha gonna do?).

But did you download Mega Man 9 today? I don't want to derail, so PM me your impressions, please.

I think the comparison between games then and now is incorrect. He assumes that bridge titles from the 80s are still bridge titles today. No, they're not, they've changed, as more and more casual titles move the bar the Megaman series stays in the same spot. While there is an argument that the early 90's classification of a bridge title should stick with the early 90s megaman, the argument ends when a modern itteration, which is now a niche game, is released. Megaman 9 is not a bridge title, and it's certainly not a casual game.

He never said Mega Man 9 was a casual game OR a bridge title. Just that Mega Man 2 and up weren't "hardcore". His definition of which is the market of "gamers [who] like the current trajectory of the industry and want graphics to be more beautiful and games to be more sophisticated.” And those, of which who aren't nostalgic, will see this as a giant step backwards. It sounds like he just found it ironic that someone who throws the word hardcore around doesn't realize that Mega Man 2 was designed specifically to be more accessible than it's predecessor, and only claims it as a "hardcore" title to justify his own tastes.

He said Mega Man 9 is just something for lapsed gamers and the game itself isn't significant as Capcom's decision to intentionally make a game true to the dated 8-bit style of video games.

He's overthinking it.

Anyway, Megaman 9 is more accessable? That sucks.

I don't need your console war.
It feeds the rich while it buries the poor.
You're power hungry, spinnin' stories, and bein' graphics whores.
I don't need your console war.

NO NO, NO NO NO.

it's funny I really liked Mega Man 3, but could never get into the later MM games. Well I did play MM X and the RPG versions, but didn't care much for the sequals. I think I will give MM 9 a go. I like the idea of DLC for new level.

Squilliam: On Vgcharts its a commonly accepted practice to twist the bounds of plausibility in order to support your argument or agenda so I think its pretty cool that this gives me the precedent to say whatever I damn well please.

"Bozon saying Mega Man 2 is ‘hardcore’ sounds like he is using the reasoning of “since I am hardcore and I like this game, therefore, this game must be hardcore”. Some might say, “But Malstrom! Mega Man 9 is hard! Therefore, it is only for hardcore!” Oh please. Everyone agrees that the early NES games were hard and that the NES users were mostly children. Are you telling me that children, most of whom had little to no experience in video games, were ‘hardcore’ in the 1980s? Of course not."

If the apocalypse means developers focusing on gameplay instead of graphics then I welcome it.

If I made a list of the prettiest games I have played none of them come from the 7th generation of consoles. I believe we've come to a point where the amount of polygons and particle effects you can push just doesn't matter. I just wish more developers got that through their heads. Give me art style and gameplay over graphics any day.

I like his articles but I could see why people won't care about what he says. Like ok MM9 is messing the trajectory, what do you want me to do about it ~_~

Over thinking is typically what a lot of people do with their blogs. Malstrom is no exception.

And he was saying Mega Man 2 (And it’s sequels) was made more accessible than the first Mega Man game.

And exactly what would be wrong if Mega Man 9 was made more accessible?

A fair point from the average gamer's perspective, but Malstrom doesn't come from that angle; he's interested in the business side of things.

But I think even then this has some impact on us; if he's right, it marks the change in what type of games are emphasized. Think of it as your canary dying while you're in a coal mine...
