I think the comparison between games then and now is incorrect. He assumes that bridge titles from the 80s are still bridge titles today. No, they're not, they've changed, as more and more casual titles move the bar the Megaman series stays in the same spot. While there is an argument that the early 90's classification of a bridge title should stick with the early 90s megaman, the argument ends when a modern itteration, which is now a niche game, is released. Megaman 9 is not a bridge title, and it's certainly not a casual game.

He never said Mega Man 9 was a casual game OR a bridge title. Just that Mega Man 2 and up weren't "hardcore". His definition of which is the market of "gamers [who] like the current trajectory of the industry and want graphics to be more beautiful and games to be more sophisticated.” And those, of which who aren't nostalgic, will see this as a giant step backwards. It sounds like he just found it ironic that someone who throws the word hardcore around doesn't realize that Mega Man 2 was designed specifically to be more accessible than it's predecessor, and only claims it as a "hardcore" title to justify his own tastes.

He said Mega Man 9 is just something for lapsed gamers and the game itself isn't significant as Capcom's decision to intentionally make a game true to the dated 8-bit style of video games.

He's overthinking it.

Anyway, Megaman 9 is more accessable? That sucks.

I don't need your console war.
It feeds the rich while it buries the poor.
You're power hungry, spinnin' stories, and bein' graphics whores.
I don't need your console war.

NO NO, NO NO NO.
