Its MS and Sony, they will talk shiet about each other they have been doing it for years now. Maybe you should not take it to seriously.   Untangle your panties and go play some games.

We had a great time at the C3 event, with much thanks to Microsoft.

We ran into Peter Moore, and tons of other important people, such as Major Nelson.

Pictured left is Brandon and I with Peter Moore, moments before we told him we worked for a Nintendo site, to which he replied:

"Oh, so you drink our drinks and eat our food.. Go play our games or be on your way!"

We told him we would do so, but before departing he said: "Say hi to Reggie for me."

Thanks, it makes more sense now... however it still sounds completely pointless and almost a borderline lie. Cause they are making it sound like xbox will release a new system... BUT NOT US... we are sticking it out for 10 years! or 9 or so then support ps3 for 1-2 years. (Granted I never thought they would do that.... to me thats why they are trying to make me believe... so I just assumed they were lieing.... again)

 

of course!  You have to be able to read between the lines -- the PS3 will have a 10 year cycle just like the PSX nearly did and just like the PS2 will.  That doesn't mean they won't be trying to sell you the PS4 five years from now and it doesn't mean the PS3 won't be totally obsolete 5 years from now.  In fact, it probably will.  About 1/2 of the life cycle is something most gamers won't care much about and hardcore gamers almost certainly won't care about -- it will be the period when the system is obsolete, last-generation hardware but Sony continues to sell it and make a massive profit.

To be fair, Microsoft and Nintendo would *love* to do this, and considering the sales of the DS and the Wii, Nintendo has a reasonable shot of giving both of those products 10-year life cycles. 

Peter moore was talking crap about the PS3 price cut, this is just the pay back.

But Microsoft has proven time and again that they're a very petty company and don't deal well with competition.  Sony should have taken the high road.

If the Gamecube or XBox had the development costs associated with the PS3 or XBox 360 after their third year there would have been no exclusive third party development; after their fourth year there would probably have been no third party development at all. In order to have a viable system past 4 years your system needed to sell enough units in the first 2 or 3 years to maintain software development; as a guess I would say that for the XBox 360 and PS3 to really have a long life they would each need to sell 20 Million by the end of their second year, and 30 Million by the end of their third year (at the current rate this simply won't happen).


 Why this isn't going to happen is because they are going to have different iterations of both. Especially the PS3 as you've seen, they are going to make newer more cost effective versions and get rid of the old and keep doing that multiple times. So they will be profitable much sooner than 10 years.
